I just broke my P9!!!!!

I carry my P9 daily. Haven't shot it for about two months, just been busy. Today I fired off 5 rounds of WWB 147gr HP. I can't believe how accurate I am from 5-7 yards. (smile) After the 6th round, it appeared that the slide was slightly out of battery.

On further inspection, I saw that the guide rod was protruding out of the front of the slide about 1/4 inch. What the heck?

After a difficult disassembly, I found that the end of the guide rod spring had opened up allowing the guide rod to go completely inside the spring. The end of the spring just bent open wide enough for the lip of the guide rod to slip right inside.

I bought this thing brand new about 18 months ago. Will Dottie send me a new spring? Has anybody had this happen before?

Which end of the spring was resting against the flange of the guide rod? The open end, or the closed end. The closed end should be against the flange with the open end against the slide.

I've seen a couple of Kahrs where people had the spring installed backwards. The open end of the spring will be more apt to allow the flange of the guide rod to spread the coil and enter the spring.

flyandscuba is right. The guide rod spring is probably installed backwards. It's difficult to say from your description if any damage at all was done...?

It could be that reassembling correctly will correct the issue.

Though you may want to acquire a new spring in case it was... sprung. ;)

I had a PM40 delivered NIB from Kahr with magazines springs installed backwards...

(The open end of the spring goes forward.)
