These things may not seem like an issue, but it probably depends on how you are going to carry it. I think the shorter barrel makes pocket carry easier. (IIRC Michigun likes the longer barrel in the pocket and is very fond of the 3.5" bbl. combined with the shorter PM grip on his P9 Covert. I think the longer grip makes pocket carry more difficult too. And you will feel those 2 oz. if they're in your pocket. If you are not going to pocket carry then there are less issues however the longer grip may still not conceal as easily as the shorter one when carried on the belt. If the owner is of small stature then there may be the issue of the grip printing through the back of a cover garment. Of course the longer bbl. of the Covert or the P9 will have less felt recoil. So consider what the pistol will be used for. If not for concealment of some kind then I'd recommend an all stainless version. If for pocket carry I'd recommend the PM9 or P9 Covert. If for belt carry then the P9 Covert or P9 depending on what you can conceal well. The Covert in many ways is the perfect compromise. It is just one oz. heavier than the PM9 and has the advantage of a less complex recoil spring arrangement (probably a higher degree of reliability as a result), is easy to conceal and you can always make it a "long grip" with the extended magazine... Gee, I should have bought one of those ;Q 10 Ring Tao 12-06-2005, 12:37 Warm took the words right out of my mouth. I didnt want to wrap a ton of money in a bunch of small nines so I got the "transformer" of the Kahr line. Liked the longer barrel and ejection port of the p9 and pocketability of the PM. I just wish They would come out with a decent mag extention for the covert 7 rounders. Then I wouldnt have the urge to pick up a new P9. Just cant justify buying an entire gun to get a little bit more of a grip. The PM9 or P9 covert isnt the perfect pocket gun. It will work in some pants but too hard to draw out of others. I like the p9 covert because I can usually carry IWB summer time with shorts as well as in the pocket know and then. To be honest, my plan was only to carry it in the summer but even in the winter, it gets the most carry time. This is one gun that I have no plans on selling. warmrain 12-06-2005, 20:09 I too, wish they would redesign the extended magazine base plate such that it was more ergonomic. It would be so easy to do. Coffin Filler 12-06-2005, 20:20 skar Your friend is lucky. He can actually shoot your PM9 to see if he likes it!! If the recoil doesn't bother him, he can hold on to the little baby, and he can get "acceptable" groups there isn't any reason to get the P9. I got a CW9 because it fit my hand and pointed "naturally". That made it a no brainier. I carry IWB and the little longer grip was no issue - especially when my other IWB gun is a 1911 Commander! Even the "full size" Kahr is small by comparison. :) Glock4Life 12-06-2005, 20:47 I think I'm in the minority here in that I didn't care for the PM9. Just too small for my hands. The P9 was perfect for me and I've never been happier with a pistol acquisition. Rediculously accurate, dependable, and for me anyway, the ideal size carry piece. And don't forget the added velocity/"sight plain" you get from the Covert's longer barrel/slide when compared to the PM9! ;) Originally posted by mikeb9550 I was on these cross roads back a year ago. It would be so easy to do. Absolutely! The only beef I have with the PM9 6 rnd mags is the baseplate. When I carry it, the 7 rnd mag is in the gun & the 6 rnd is the spare in my pocket. Simulate a double feed during practice, then try getting the mag out. Only the 7 rnd mag with the extended length can be ripped out with no problem. The 6 rnd mag is flush fit & hard to remove with a double feed. Getting the Pearce pinky extension will help, too. +1 for the PM9. warmrain 12-08-2005, 22:14 Originally posted by 10-S Absolutely! I need 200% concealability and require the shortest grip profile. I also like that the 6+1 and the 7 gives me a mental equivelent, IOW during training I'm used to 7 shots, mag change, 7 shots... etc. And I also find the Kimber flush magazines to be amoung the easiest flush mages to extract in a "double feed" situation. Some other pistols (e.g. 1911 with just the original welded base plate) can be really hard! So I'm loving the flush 6 rnd. stainless base plate and that it sticks out a little and you can actually get a little grip on it. What I think is a missed opportunity is that the extended 7 round magazine has the place for what could be a nice pinky finger extension to the grip and it isn't... vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
