View Full Version : K40 - threaded barrel for a suppressor

I have a suppressor that I bought from a Class III dealer here in VA for a Walther P22. I really like it. So I was debating on suppressing my K40 - the dealer has some nice 40 suppressors.
Of course I need an extended, threaded barrel. Where can I get the extended barrel (so enough of it is outside the slide to attach the suppressor)?
The dealer can arrange to have the barrel threaded, but if I can get it threaded already, that would be cool, too.
Also, anybody had any experience shooting a suppressed K40 or other 40 S&W pistol?

Can you fit a T40 barrel to a K40 to give you the 1/2" that you might need?

Sounds reasonable to me. Anybody know if this will work?

To be honest I do not know if a T40 Barrel will work. If is does then the T40 barrel is the best solution. If it does not I have another possible solution.
Kahr offers a ported barrel for the K40. This is a barrel that extends out the muzzle and has a slot or port cut in it. It seems to me that at some point during the manufacturing of these barrels, they are extended barrels without ports.
This is just a guess. You might be able to make a special order and convince Kahr to sell an unported "ported" barrel for your K40.
Just a thought.
Good Luck.

Yea AZ T', It makes me wonder if the ported barrel might even start life as a T barrel... ;)

I've got an email from Dottie saying Kahr doesn't have a custom shop. I then replied and asked if the T40 barrel will work in a K40...
We'll see what she says.
didnt kahr ever contact you on the barrel problems?

Dottie said she *thought* that the T40 barrel would work in a K40. So I asked to her to please check and give me a definitive answer from a technician.
The don't provided non-ported versions of their ported barrel she told me also.
I await her next email. :)

If the T40 barrel doesn't work out there are several barrel manufacturers out there who may not list Kahr barrels on their web sites, but many do custom barrels.
KKM (http://www.dafont.com/en/)
Storm Lake (http://www.stormlakemachine.com/)
Bar-Sto (http://www.barsto.com/) (I seem to remember someone in this forum trying to put together a group buy for Kahr K357 barrels from Bar-Sto
EFK (http://www.efkfiredragon.com/)
I'm sure there are others that I missed.
Does make me wonder if I could get a K9 barrel for my MK9 and have it threaded ... hmm :)

Sounds cool, it may be an expensive pistol to suppress but if you want it bad enough, and can afford it...go for it.
1. Try contacting Cylinder and Slide and see if the can fabricate a barrel for you, they do the custom work for Kahrs.
2. One thing you should really research before going any further is cycling of the weapon. When you add a suppressor to an autoloader, you add extra weight to the front end of the barrel, therefore making it difficult for the stock weapon to successfully extract and rechamber a new round. Hence the invention of the "Nielsen Device" or "Recoil Booster" that is inside the can (Suppressor). This uses the spent gases of the round to aid and assist the gun in cycling the round without damaging the barrel, barrel hood, etc.
Let us know what happens with the barrel search, I hope this advice was taken for it's usefullness and not "Know it all" Just trying to help. I have my H&K Tactical .45, Suppressed and it's a ball to shoot!!

Lots of good information. I am hoping that the suppressor will be light enough not to be an issue, but that is an important consideration.
Also, thanks to Zundfolge for his list of barrel manufacturers.
I will update this thread as things progress.

The T40 barrel is not designed to work in a K40 :(
So I guess I will have to see if there are any reasonable third-party options.
