I was wondering if anyone has put a K9 magazine baseplate (black plastic) on MK9 short magazine. In effect you would get a little bit of finger extension - not as much as Pearce grip extension but maybe enough to rest your finger and yet keep the shorter dimensions of the grip. Kahr lists the baseplate at $8.00 plus shipping and I assume that the basplate lock from the original 6rd Mk9 magazine would lock the baseplate of K9.
If so - pictures would be appreciated

That K9/P9 base-plate will lock onto a MK9/PM9 mag just fine (Which it sounds like you’re already aware of… I’m not sure on the MK9/PM9 “locking insert” though as I’ve always used/tried them as they’re partnered from the factory… not sure how well a MK9/PM9 “locking insert” would actually “lock” a K9/P9 base-plate… my bet would be that it won’t hold as well.)… HOWEVER, an unmodified K9/P9 base-plate won’t allow the MK9/PM9 mag to lock into the gun!
Simple to fix though as ya just need to trim the top of the K9/P9 base-plate up a bit. ^c
Caution: Don’t trim it too much as you’ll weaken its hold on the mag! (You do have to trim it enough to allow the mag to seat properly though!)

There is a recent post about putting a MK9 flush baseplate on a K9 to make a flush fitting mag for a K9.
The info put forth stated that the mag sticks out about 1/4 in. from the bottom of the magwell. I suspect that the MK9 flush mag with a K9 baseplate will not lock into your MK9.
Edited to add. "Yeah. What Michigun said"
Another thought is that a Pearce Grip could be modified also to shorten its overall lenght.

Actually I found a photo posted by jmb79 on 11-03-05 under "I love my heavy MK9...but.." that answers my question exactly, and thanks Michigun for a warning that the mag base plate may have to be modified.
The best - by far- design of the magazine extension was by Paris Theodore for his ASP pistol - as it provides a support without unnecessarily large protrusion such as represented by the Pearce extension.

Michigun.
Exactly.

I did remember seeing that before when there was a post about all black flush mounting baseplates for PM/Covert models.
I will most likely be doing this to the Pearce Grips that I own. For me, I have found no advantage to the pinkie rest when shooting my MK40. Flush mag, extended mag, Pearce Grip mag, all the rounds go the the same ragged fist size hole in the target.
My P40 Covert is getting "TLC" from Kahr at this time, though I expect it should shoot about the same.

I'm not sure if a metel base plate can be used with a plastic retainer (or visa versa)...? Or if they should be... I think not.
Michigun, Does the K9 "flush" mag really stick out of the grip when the base plate is removed?

That's one of the reasons why I went ahead & hacked my Pearce up. :)

Yup, my thoughts too.

Yes, not too bad, but it does.

Of course the word "flush" here only means that you don't have a bare magazine sticking out - just one form of another of a plastic extension covering the bottom. Pearce looks a lot better than the Kahr factory plastic surrounding the base of the magazine. If you remove it - it will stick out.
Try the Promag seven round blued magazine specifically for MK9 or PM9 (PMKAR05). It is a bit shorter that the factory 7 rounder but the base is a lot better looking and more useful in suppoorting your fingers. It looks a bit like the K9 base on steroids. Provided that it works (and I have not tried it yet), it may be a good deal from www.fourfourmag.com at $14.99 plus shipping.
