I have a Kahr PM9. I just purchased a pocket holster but need a belt holster also. I am looking at the Fist Closed Cropped leather holster and the Kydex #2 High Ride holster. Any of you have personal experiences whith these two holsters??? I have never had a Kydex holster. Are they as comfortable and concealable as leather???

If you are looking for a OWB belt than look at Mitch Rosen (http://www.mitchrosen.com)'s UPL. There is a regular version of the Upper Limit and there may also be one in the "Espress Line". He has a fine range of quality leather.

How does Mitch Rosen compare with Fist? I see there is a big difference in price. Their leather holsters look similar. Is there a big difference in quality???

I have tried tons of holsters. My favorite is Comp-Tac (http://www.comp-tac.com/)

I use the shirt tucker for my PM9....I have the CTAC for my Beretta and my HK. The shirt tucker size is perfect for the PM9.

Yes.

1st off I’d shy away from the FIST “High Ride” holster as it rides… well… REALLY high! TOO high is what I & most others that have tried it found.

(FYI, 99% of all leather FIST holsters can be had in kydex so you can have that “Closed Cropped” in kydex if you want to & it will run ya less then its leather counterpart.)

I’m personally a kydex FIST holster fan & use their holsters exclusively… no one else makes anything like it that I’ve run across yet.

“Comfort” is VERY subjective, but I can honestly say that I feel ZERO difference in comfort between OWB kydex holsters & OWB leather holsters… after all, you’ve got some cloths between you & the holster with OWB.

As far as concealing goes? It’s more of a holster design then it is a leather -vs- kydex thing… however, you’re going to have to try REALLY hard to find another OWB kydex holster that conceals better then one of FIST’s OWB kydex holsters as FIST kydex is nice & thin… it barely adds ANY thickness to the gun.

Ken,
Mitch's work is first class and the UPL is called the Upper Limit because it carries the pistol at what Mitch considers to be the limit. It is not so high as to negatively effect the security of the pistol. Yes, they are expensive, but they are incredibly well made and hand boned (fitted). Mitch does have an "Express Line" that is less expensive; not every product design is available as an "Express", but there is an Express Upper Limit (UPL-EXP).

Mitch also has a tuckable, it is not in the printed catalog, but it is on the web site. It is called the WKM (Workman) and this tuckable is really designed by the guy who invented tuckables (Dave Workman), not a copy. There is also an Express Workman (WKM-EXP).

The Express line is less $$ because there basically is less hand boning.

I find that my MK9 in the UPL rides with the muzzle high enough that I can comfortably conceal it under a short bomber jacket. It remains concealed as long as my elbow is not raised above my shoulder. The muzzle is above the hip pocket opening on most of my pants (e.g. Dockers).

This (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=6951&title=BELT+SLIDE+HOLSTER) is what I've been using for my PM9 for the last year. I can't imagine anything working significantly better, and the price is hard to beat.

I use a Don Hume IWB when I don't need to a tuck and a TuckerGunLeather Coverup Plus when I do need to tuck.

The Coverup Plus is adjustable for ride height, cant and retention.

Gee, this is the first time I've heard this. In all the years my associates and I have done business with Mitch and Nancy I've never ssen an "attitude". I've got 6 of his holster and a belt and they are all first rate. He made the first MK9 PSF for me after I convinced him the pistol wasn't too big or heavy (I've later decided it is too heavy, but was before the PM9),

do a little search and you will see....

unlike alessi, bulman, sparks guys ect... i mean i spent a lot of money with him. called to maybe place another order. and basically, he started talking @$@%T like a "new yorker" in the movies...lol.

sort of on the lines of. " why would you want that", "thats stupid" i asked him why his shoulder holster didnt have tie downs and his response, ( i s$#$ you not was)

" those are just for the movies and picking up girls on the corner"...

instead of giving me a normal response to a possible paying customer on a very pricey holster. he responded like an @$#$ hole. so i cut it short, and will never own a holster by him again.

if you have had good luck with him great. but like i said i know im not alone out here. and in fact a couple times before i called on something else, (didnt tell him who i was ) and he treated me the same way.(terrible).......

Mitch was the ony one I could find to make a rig (holster, belt, and combo mag/6P carrier) for my P7M10. It was on my doorstep - left by UPS - when I returned home this morning from a business trip to S. Florida.

I must say, his quality is excellent -- right up ther with another of my favorites, Matt DelFatti.

The couple of times I spoke with Mitch on the telephone (he knows the M10 well and used to carry one daily), he was very personable -- and helped me select the right holster and the proper size for the belt, along with a suggestion on the color (I went with Mahogany).

From the time I placed the order, until I opened the box -- was 2.5 months. IMHO, not too bad for a custom rig of outstanding quality. Price, yes it was expensive -- but it will be carrying a $2000 gun, and well worth it as far as I'm concerned.

Just bought a Fist #1 Clip, IWB for IWB carry as well as for Belt carry (outside of trousers & under belt). Man, I love this holster - wish i had bought one a long time ago. Lot's of quality for not a lot of money.

Kudos to the 'FIST, Inc.' people.

Irony in this post. I also called Mitch Rosen about an Upper Limit for a Glock 30. Maybe I caught him on a bad day, but his reply was curt, and frankly unprofessional. "We don't make the holster for that gun" When I asked why, he condescendingly replied that it is not one of Glock's more popular models. There was no discussion or effort on his part to accommodate, or even suggest an alternate choice.(???) Unless I am the one who is truly mistaken, the G30 IS a popular Glock Model as nearly every other holster manufacturer makes, or will special manufacture a holster in leather or kydex for that handgun. Oh well. There are many other great ones out there. +1 for Bulman, and if you haven't seen an Andrews McDaniel II for IWB, take a look. It is my favorite.

Take a look at the High Noon Hidden Ally. http://www.highnoonholsters.com/ When I bought one last year, High Noon kept them in stock for the PM9. It is simple and allows easy shirt tucking. Yes, the belt clip being on top of the holster does add a fraction of thickness, but the convenience of putting it on is much better. Good value too. If I am going to carry OWB, I'm carrying my HK USPc45 anyway. The PM 9 is the deep conceal baby, so IWB makes sense. Oh, I only have a 31 inch waist but did not have to go for larger jeans to accomodate the Hidden Ally with the PM 9 in it. And High Noon was courteous and knowledgeable on the phone when I called to check if it was in stock.

Good luck--holster shopping takes just that to wade through all our opinions (and I'm at it again for another pistol). ;z

Thanks for the link. I like the fact that they use a metal clip -- rather than the breakable plastic one provided by Galco on their tuckable IWB holster (at nearly twice the price)!

Funny too, I just got off the phone with Mitch and Nancy to ask their advice on a new rig for my new (to me) Colt Officers. I had a nice chat and ended up ordering a CEO and a 5JR...
