View Full Version : 3/16'' hex for night sights???
Hi i was just wondering if anyone could help me solve this problem? i just bought a gen 2 G19 and i want to install some night sights on it, my ? is where and how can i find a 3/16" hex driver without paying $35???;P any help would be greatly appreiciated ;c
AmeriGlo & Aro Tek night sights include the nut driver with their sight sets.
Lone Wolf has an Armorers tool (LWD-AT1) that includes a 3/32 pin punch, flat head screwdriver, 3/16 nut driver & a small nylon parts brush. This tool will install front sights on all Glock models including 17L,24,34,35. It sells at $19.95
If you don’t want to but any tools that’s ok too. Just sent us your slide & we will install them free of charge.
Well there is the Lone Wolf armoror's tool. http://www.lonewolfdist.com/featured.asp
Or just a generic nut driver in 3/16". You might have to file down the end of the driver so that the flats are right at the very end. The front sight screw so thin that the nut driver might not engage it with it's flats if there is any rounded portion at it's end.

Buy a Sears #41977 wrench for the front sight and you'll be fine.

Does anyone know how hard is it to just install the front site only? Lonewolfdist.com has the night front site only from ameriglo. According to the site, it comes with the 3/16 nut driver. Does anyone know the process of installing it? thanks
Thank you fellas for the suggestions and offers it has helped a bunch. i think i'll just try to find one at sears "or similar" store and file it to fit :)

-Use a nail tip on the plastic front sight from the bottom side up. Push it out.
Install steel sight.
Add a drop of loctite to the threads and hand tighten.

Sorry, i am really new to this. When i order the sights, does it come with the loctite or i have to buy it some where else? thanks
BP44: Don’t get a wrench, you wont be happy with its performance. You can purchase a nut driver from Sears if you like. It may actually work on a couple Glock models but I guarantee it will not work on all of them. The problem is that the wall thickness of the driver is too thick. You need to remember that the Sears tool is designed for use on everything except a gun. The nut driver tools we offer are designed for use on guns, nothing else.
Cadetcode3: Installing your own front sight is very easy. We simply pull the plastic fronts off with pliers. When we do gun shows we like to bite them off so our customers understand how frail these sights actually are. Yes the plastic sight will be damaged, who cares? Why would you want to save the cheap plastic sight, your getting a superior metal sight. Use a small dab of loctite, we recommend blue. No the loctite is not included in the package. You can pick up a small vile at most autoparts stores or hardwear center.
I can't add anything to JR's fine posts except that he knows what he's talking about and be sure to use only a small amount of Loctite (or whatever your local threadlocker is) on the side of the little screw (the threads, versus a glob on the whole screw shaft).
+1 on using the little nutdrivers that are furnished; you can buy a shallow-walled nut driver from a hardware store and then the first time you want to use it through the access hole on the long slide of your spankin' new G34, oops, it's too thick to fit through.
You'll be happy with your Ameriglo and Lonewolf's service. That's what I usually use on all my non-GSSF guns, along with a plain black Aro-Tek rear - works great.

The Sears driver #41977 will work on all but the long slides. It's thin walled enough to get around the nut inside the slide but not thin enough to get through the hole in my G35. That said, I do have a lonewolf ultimate tool (they sent in error, without charge in my last order. Dan said to keep it. Thanks JR:) ) I also have an OEM Glock front sight tool. Both of those do work better I think but for $6 the Sears tool works just fine.

Switch625: Yes we recommend Blue because it is (usually) easy to remove. Most our customers change sights 3 to 4 times so we don’t want to make it ruff on them. The Blue seems to hold just fine. I have installed thousands of sights and never been approached for a replacement because it fell off.
