Somehow I got a whole crap load of spyware on my pc in about 5 minutes of web browsing. Not sure what I clicked on but Im paying for it now. I have ad-aware as well as the microsoft anti-spyware. I cant seem to get rid of all of it. Are there any other free utilities that work.

McAfee is reporting that I have the Downloader AQW trojan. McAfee wont delete, remove, or qaurantine the file. I keep getting a message to the effect of: make sure the file is not write protected.
I am at my wits end and my pc is fubared.

Thanks;g

I would also run Spybot Search and Destroy to see if it helps.

In regards to Macafee not wanting to delete the trogan...I am assuming you are trying it in safe mode?

Download McAfee ( Stinger ) put on your desktop.
Boot up into safe mode and run the file.
The above poster suggested Search and Destroy

Also run in safe mode, and should clean the infection.

If not PM me and I will get you some more options.

Finaly nailed the Trojan!!! I shut her down and came back in a few minutes and booted in safe mode aaggaaaiiinnn. Macafee finaly caught it and took care of it. Im still working on the spyware prob. I ran spybot in safe mode several times and nada. The spyware is giving me false system messages "System has detected 4 active spyware applications that may cause your computer to crash and restart, slow it to a crawl and even shut it down entirely. Click here to get rid of unwanted spyware." I might have been born on a turnup truck but it wasnt yesterday!

I downloaded zonelabs zonealarm that should help prevention. Im certainly not pleased with Crapafee security center. Im going to shop these links yall gave me and look for a new anti virus software and security utilities.
Is the Firefox browser really safer?

Thanks for the help!!

Watch these, funny. Now, don't think I am slamming MAC's. Its just that everytime someone says Firefox or something like that. It is like:

I finaly bit the bullet and purchased Webroot Spy Sweeper. It looks like its going to do the trick. While I am on this security awareness kick, anyone know of good wireless security software for my laptop connection? Ill do a search and see if I find anything, seems like I remember reading something either in 'tech talk' or at majorgeeks.com (<--- Great site by the way!!!)

Thanks everybody

I prefer AluriaSoft or ZoneAlarmPro's spyware tracker/killer.

Webroot Spy Sweeper is one of the best. When Ewido came out (with a free version) I switched from Spy Sweeper to Ewido.I use it to scan and use Spyware Blaster to protect the PC.A newer one from another company recently came out.I know nothing about it.

I've got both Ad-Aware SE and Ewido. Ad-Aware constantly finds more spyware than Ewido.

I tried Microsoft's too. It does not find spyware on my computer as well as Ad-Aware SE. It does supposedly have real time protection as far as I know, which is a plus.:)
