Howdy:

If you haven't heard, a NYC police officer, mortally wounded, shot two burgalry suspects he confronted in front of his neighbor's home. The police officer later died while the two suspects were caught and are in a hospital jail ward in serious condition facing multiple charges.

My NYC stockbroker twin-brother, who lives on Long Island (CCW permit holder), said a radio station mentioned the police officer shot the suspects with his Kahr. This is the second police officer killed in as many weeks. For more information about this tragic event, click on the following:

While it probably was a Kahr, so far I have seen reports that it was a Khr, Kahr, Glock, and a .25 acp that obviously is neither a Glock or a Kahr.

Strangely, we know the bad guys had a .357 revolver but info on the good guy is seemingly confused.

The AP article in our local paper yesterday said it was a "Karr" pistol.

Sooner or later, if not already, the media will end up spelling the name "car" - I have no doubt.

The police commissioner, in a news conference (so take all this with a grain of salt) implied that the officer fired "all 8 rounds" from his pistol. If that is indeed true, it was likely a Kahr K9, as that is an approved off-duty gun for NYPD and it holds 8 shots. Another possibility is that he had an issued G19, and fired only 8 shots.

It was not a .25ACP unless the officer decided to violate policy.

Howdy:

Prior to becoming NYC Police Commissioner for the second time, Ray Kelly took the head security job at Bear Stearns where my twin brother works as a stockbroker in NYC. Introduced to him by Ray Kelly, my twin has an acquaintence in the NYC administration department and after my twin heard on the radio the weapon was a Kahr, he called his acquaintence to confirm. Yes, it was a Kahr but didn't mention the model since my twin didn't ask.

Also, the NYC PD is classifying this shooting as ON THE JOB related death instead of OFF Duty! There are probably reasons for this approach both for the surviving family and the NYC Police Department.

Well, he was acting as a police officer, and is probably expected to do so in serious situations like this one even when he's "off duty." I'd say that's only fair, and it probably makes his family/estate eligible for workers' comp, employment-related death benefits, etc.

Hello all. I just wanted to add my .02. First off I wanted to say R.I.P. P.O. excuse me Det. Danny "E" Enchautegui. We all are gonna miss you brother! Second, yes he did use his off-duty Kahr K9 to pump 8 bullets into those scumbags. I just wish they were six feet under instead a great man. I remember when he first came out the academy along with a long time friend (who so happened to be his partner the first six months on the job) and he always had his K9 as a B.U.G. working these rough streets in the bronx.
