View Full Version : Odd marking on a WWII P-38
I recently saw a P-38 with an odd addition to the 4 digit serial number. Just to the right of the s.n. a symbol resembling a backward facing P had been added. The gun is a WWII model marked 44 and byf. This new addition is present on the three places that I could find the s.n. Does this mean that the gun was re-issued by another country after the war ? The gun was just passing thru and I could not scare up a digital camera.
Is it like this:

To marcdw - i couldn't quite make out the letter in the photo but that is the general idea. Is that a backwards facing "p" ?
From what you discribed sounds like a Russian re-issue.
no, that is the serial #, which only looks on the picture this way.
