View Full Version : Question about Lasermax??
I just installed Lasermax in my G22 and love it. Now I shoot over 500 rounds every weekend with this gun and don't want to use the Lasermax when I'm just at the range. So I will remove the laser while practicing, but here's my question. Do I have to remove the spring and slide lock lever too????

Nope.Just pull out the Lasermax and put in your stock recoil spring assembly.I do this too when I go to the range or shoot matches.

Would it not be easier to simply NOT turn it on?
And, would it not be a good idea to practice *with* the laser? (if you plan to use it for serious reasons, other than 'just practice')

Einstein yes it would be easier, but my concern is the unnecessary wear and tear on the Lasermax recoil spring. And yes I do practice with it too.
Glock22Shooter thanks, that's what I thought.

Oh no, it's already worn out... please send the Lasermax to me. Thanks in advance. Seriously, wear it out; I believe there is a 3 yr. warranty on Lasermax.

The recoil spring is good for around 5000 rounds, and they only cost 9 bucks to replace.I take mine out at the range and matches just to avoid exessive wear on the battery cap.I do ocassionally leave it in at the range and I took an advanced self defense coarse and used it the whole time so I know my way around it.

Einstein the point is that you should train with what you carry and carry what you train with.
Springs are cheap.

(not sure if the 'Einstein' thing is a compliment or an insult, but I return it you in the same way you ment it)

To answer your question:
Leave the slide lock lever in, and swap the laser/spring assembly with the stock spring.
P.S. The sarcasm was uncalled for.
I for one benefit from Butch's many detailed and informative pics. Besides he was just trying to explain a very valid point, what good is the laser if you are not practicing/testing with it regularly? When you need it most, you may find out that the shot placement is way off from the laser or experience FTF or FTE issues from the aftermarket guiderod. These are possibilities, so better to train with the same setup you use for carry.
Be cool & stay safe, boricua. ;f

There was maybe a bit of sarcasm there but that strays beyond the point. All that aside I think DonQ was just asking for simple advice that I think was properly given to him.I think it would be in everyones interest to probably just drop the topic at this point and move on before it gets Serious,And I myself personally would be happy just letting it go.
DonQ,
There is only one person in the USA that knows more about Glocks than Butch, and that is Chad Mathis of Glock, Inc. in Smyrna GA. There are only a few people in the USA that can shoot a Glock better than Butch. There is no one on GlockTalk that is more helpful than Butch. His advice is as good as gold.
Sorry guys I didn't mean to insult Butch in anyway. I'm sometimes kind of a smartass, but no disrespect was meant. I am very grateful for info given by you GENTLEMEN!. Thanks again for helping!!!!!!

Absolutely.
Butch has probably forgetton more than most of us will ever know. ;)
I would say that almost everyone here has learned something from Butch at some time or another. He has helped me a great deal, that's for certain.

With a 3 year warranty I would just leave the laser in and shoot like that. You should always practice as you would use the weapon in a real life situation.
I figured to shoot 2500 rounds with the LaserMax in place, just to earn my confidence, and then start replacing it with the OEM rod/spring for range practice.
For carry or storing the gun, I'd keep the LaserMax in place...
The advice to shoot some practice rounds with it is well taken! It takes a little practice to get good with it.
The LaserMax is also a great training tool, helping with fast target acquisition and showing the slightest hand movements.
