View Full Version : Unusual Wear on New T9 Receiver Rails
Well,
My new T9 is on it's way back to Kahr. Dottie arranged for a Fedex pick up today. When I gave it the first clean and lube prior to the first range trip, I noticed some fine scratches on the very front of each receiver rail. At first, I was not that concerned. I figured that they would smooth out during break in. Well, they didn't. In fact, they became deeper and more gouge like with continued use. I'm attaching some pics to give you an idea of what the problem is, even though the pics probably don't show the problem as clearly as seeing it in person. Has anyone else had this problem? I know my K9 shows no such wear. I'd appreciate your input.
Thanks,

There's also a gouged area on the slide lock lever side. Here's a pic.

I just checked my T40 Serial #TA015x. 250 rounds down range and it still looks like new, sorry. I'm sure they'll make it right.
Mine has no such scratches. Serial #PA02XX, sorry that you are having trouble with yours. Keep us posted. I have over 500rnd thru it and no such wear.
I neglected to mention in my original post that the T9 was functioning just fine. It fired and cycled just fine, and I've had zero malfunctions out of 550 rounds. Still, the unusual wear on the front of the receiver rails really concerned me. Especially since it seemed to be getting worse with use. Also, I forgot to mention that the pics that I posted were taken after 350 rounds. I'll let you all know what Kahr does about it, but I expect it to be a couple of weeks before I hear back from them.

It looks like there is a machining problem with the front portion of the slide that rides in that part of the frame. Did you notice anything unusual with the slide? Keep us posted.
mingomike,
I looked over the slide pretty good and didn't really see anything out of the ordinary. I checked for burrs, or sharp edges, but couldn't really find anything. Of course, I'm not a pistolsmith either! Obviously, there is some problem or the slide would not be digging into the front of the receiver like that. Maybe Kahr didn't cut the receiver groove deep enough in that area, and the slide is doing their job for them! At any rate, I hope they either remedy the problem or give me a new gun. Other than that problem, I really like the T9. I like the way it looks, feels, and shoots. It seemed like the more I shot it and broke it in, the better it shot- and the more accurate it became. It was quickly becoming my favorite range gun. My previous customer service experience with Kahr (my PM9) was a positive one, so I hope this one is too! So far, they have taken it back for repair (on their dime)without any hassles. I'll keep you all posted when I find something out.
