View Full Version : Just got Stainless Mini 14 Ranch---Magazines?
I would prefer stainless or nickel plated magazines--20 round.
What would be the best 1 or 2 aftermarket manufactures of magazines for this weapon in terms of reliability.
I know that factory are the very best and there are several LEO 20 rounders out there now, but for aftermarket mags which are the best?
Thanks in advance for any comments.
Mini mags are a crapshoot. It seems like different Mini's like different mags. Out of non factory I would have to say that the PMI magazines are the best. But, alas, PMI is out of business due to the assault weapons ban and as far as I know they never made a stainless mag. Some people seem to like the new Pro-Mags. Both the polymer and the steel. I have two polymers and they work OK but I still get more jams than I care for. No expierence with the steels.
Avoid USA and Triple K mags. You will be lucky to get 1 out of 10 magazines that function properly. But then again some will tell you that their Mini works great with them but I have never seen it. The best advice I can give you is to buy several 20 round factory mags and have them nickel plated.

My experience is exactly the same as above. At one point, years ago, I owned two Mini-14s and they each "liked" different aftermarket mags. The worst thing about the aftermarket mags is that some of them aren't marked on the magazine itself. I have bought used mags at a gunshow that worked perfectly and dropped cleanly out of the gun, but had no idea who made them. Very frustrating.

+1 on that.
They're geting cheaper; I saw an ad recently for factory 20s for $30 each. I'll try to track it down, if you're interested...
I got lucky. My mini likes any mag I stick in it. Perfectunion has a good mini14 forum, a whole section on mags.

USA and Triple K mags are very poor, avoid them. PMI are a good choice for after market mags. If you can get the OEM mags, go with them, it will save you a lot of hassle.

I had a couple mini 14s back in 99-2k .the best 20 and 30 and 40 round mags I had were not marked at all!;e
If you are looking for Factory mags Cheaper Than Dirt had 20 rounders nib for $29. These were in the store so I am not sure if they have them on the website.
CDNN had factory 20s. Not sure what they are running now...

I have the same damm problem. I am not shure what the best mags for my mini are.
I baught 3 20rnd. mags from cheap dirt for $10 each and they work ok. One would not even go in the gun
I also baught a 30 rnd and forget how it worked.;Q
None of my mags are marked;Q
I purchased several 20 round pro mags. Looks to be almost identical to the factory 20s. They fit and function well. I use them in a ss model 196. Get them at 44mags. They are blue, not stainless. If you have the money to spend, I would go with the Ruger factory 20 rounders.
I have several PMI 30 round ss mags. They work well if you do not put more than 25 rounds in the mag, otherwise they bind.
