I just got a new 34 and wonder if it needs anything. I was thinking some type of meatal guid rod. I was also thinking of replacing the spring with a lighter one, Is that ok to do? any cautions? I love this new gun and I havent even shot it.:)
I made the mistake of wasting my money on a s/s guiderod and different springs. Made the gun UNRELIABLE in competition shooting.
Maybe a decent purchase if you just want to toy around with different spring weights at the range. But I learned my lesson, don't mess with the springs when you need to count on the gun 100%.

ammo
I installed Meprolight adjustable tritium sights on my Model 34.
They were a worthy addition in my opinion since I shoot 115, 124, and occasionally 147 grain bullet loads in my gun and I can adjust the sights for impact differences in the different cartridges while the tritium elements are a must in any serious combat/competition handgun in my opinion.
I too tried a stainless full length guide rod for about 1000 rounds.
It didn't make my pistol unreliable, it just didn't do anything that was beneficial or advantageous so I went back to the standard Glock guide rod set-up.
I do use a Buffer Technology Shok-Buff in the pistol and this does appear to minimize muzzle flip and it shows no signs of falling apart and does not affect reliability in any way in several thousand rounds now.
I plan to replace it at ten thousand rounds, sooner if it fails.
Tried skateboard tape and then a Hogue slip on grip thingy.
Neither did anything but become annoying after a couple hundred rounds, again the factory grip works just fine for me.
I did add a filler plug to the hole in the bottom of the grip and I installed a 1911 lanyard loop on the grip plug since I use a pistol leash lanyard on my gun.
I also replaced the extended magazine release with a standard Glock 17 release mainly because I don't like extended magazine releases, not because it failed or spit a magazine out or anything like that.
I routinely keep a Streamlight M3 light mounted to the pistol.
It affects nothing and I always have a flashlight handy whether I keep it on the gun or remove it for hand held use in a tactical situation.
I use a Blade Tech thigh carry holster for this pistol when the light is mounted and I use a Blade Tech hip holster with a Tech-Lok attachment when I carry the gun without a light mounted.
There really isn't anything you have to do to the pistol.
They work excellent right from the box.
When I bought my Glock 34, ten shot magazines were the rule and 17 shot magazines were stupid expensive to buy.
When $20.00 17 shot magazines again became available I pitched my ten rounders and bought ten 17 shot magazines.
They are still working fine but I did install chrome silicone magazine springs in five of the magazines just to see what would happen.
Well they work just as well as the factory 17 shot magazines.
I have a factory 33 shot magazine and a Norwegian military magazine with an eight shot extension mounted to it.
Both these magazines work fine too and are fun to play with at the range.

All you really need is ammo. I got one for USPSA Production Div. But if you like tinkering like I do, this is what I did to my G34:
* Heinie Straight 8's
* Glock factory standard length slide catch
* THE Full length tungsten rod
* ISMI Reduced power 13lb recoil spring (w/ 3 coils cut off)
* Wolff Reduced power striker spring
* Wolff Extra power trigger spring
* Ghost 3.5lb connector
* Polished firing components
Shot it at a match today. The gun ran like a champ with no hiccups. Double taps were easy!

I am getting a m3 w/the pressure switch. I think I will try the shock buffer. I am not shure but I think I may get either a ct lasergrip or a lasermax for it. I like the sights allot and my neibor has some glow stuff I could put on them. I might get a new front nightsight.

Forget the buffer, I have seen them cause malfunctions.
You need....
1) Magazines
2) Ammo
3) Holster
4) Night sights
5) Take a good pistol course
That's all you need. Its a Glock, and they run best stock.
Oh, and then shoot the heck out of it!
