View Full Version : Book recommendations?
What is your favorite gun related book?
That's a fairly vague question because I want to get as wide a range of answers as possible. I'm always on the lookout for a good book and hope you folks can recommend a few I've never read or heard of before. Thanks.
Guess I'll have to answer myself! :) The other day I ordered:
"On Killing : The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society" by Dave Grossman in Paperback;
"Defensive Shooting for Real-Life Encounters: A Critical Look at Current Training Methods" by Ralph Mroz in Paperback; and
"Surgical Speed Shooting : How To Achieve High-Speed Marksmanship In A Gunfight" by Andy Stanford also in paperback.
I also ordered Evan Marshalls book on handgun stopping power. Hopefully they will be good books. Now, of course, I've found three or four more that I want but those are going to have to wait.
It's too late and I'm too tired to go into a long list, but I recommend the Massad Ayoob book, "In The Gravest Extreme" for anyone who is considering concealed carry.
Ones I have personal experiecne with:
Masad Ayoob's "In the Gravest Extreme".
John R. Lott's "More Guns, Less Crime" and "The Bias Against Guns"
Paxton Quigley's "Armed and Female"
More guns less crime is good if you mostly want a lot of cold, hard statistical facts. The Bias against guns is a little better overal and still has a lot of facts/statistics, was written after more guns less crime (more up to date info) and has some info from more guns less crime built in.
Paxton Quigley's books are good. I got two of them as Christmas gifts for my mom, but only had time to read one of them before hand.

If you haven't read "Unintended Consequences" I highly recommend you do. Incredible read, hard to put down.
If you like "On Killing" then "On Combat" should be on your list.
Anything by LTC Dave Grossman is time and money well spent.
I had won a copy of "Enemies Foreign and Domestic" by Matthew Bracken, won it here from the raffle! Just finnished reading it. It's a fictional work yet based in reality and entertwined with current political trends and some looking ahead to the not too distant future... I find myself angry at where this country is and possibly heading and am now looking for a descent rifle and will hopefully become somewhat proficient. It was an eye opener.
Everyone here should read it!

I just finished a book called 'Under and Alone' by William Queen. He was an undercover ATF agent who infiltrated the Mongols outlaw motorcycle gang. Very interesting reading.
