View Full Version : Eotech zero issue
Got an EOtech the other day, I've got a question though.
I mounted it on a foregrip rail, cowitnessed with the fixed carry handle A1 sights.
Problem is, the reticle doesn't drop low enough to be at the POI of the irons.
I've backed out the screw pretty much all the way and it stops lowering, am I doing something wrong?

I could be wrong, but I dont think it would be POI for the irons, by co-witnessing, you can use one or the other, but they wont be zero'd the same. The irons are zero'd and the aimpoint is zero'd but neither to each other.

Who made the upper and the rails? Are the irons zero'd by firing and not just by looking thru them? You may need to have the EOtech shimmed to make up for the difference, but normally the eOtech will co-witness with the irons.

The irons are zeroed by firing.
I'd have to have the eotech lowered actually to account for the difference.
At close range it's not a big deal, but at long range, that bit of difference will be huge.

I'm still not seeing the problem, with 2 different sights, would you not have two independant zero's?
your trying to put the EO, so that where the sights the EO goes, why not just zero the weapon to the EO and where it goes, the bullets go, and if the eo breaks you've still got your zero'd sights.....

In a cowitness, you wouldn't.
Assuming the bullets go where the ironsights point, the EOtech zero-ed to any other point would be inaccurate.
If it was mounted on a carry handle, I'd understand, but in a cowitness, they should line up.

no, cowitness, you see the sights through the EO. So you can use either to shoot. that does not mean they point to the same spot. The irons will be zero'd and the EO will be. So if you use the EO, your dead on target, and if you use the irons your on target. The Cowitness just allows you to see the iron sights through the optical.

Zero it independent of the iron sights.

I just zero'd my 512 Friday. The sight does not line up with my zero'd irons in a flat top co-witness set up yet both hit where they are supposed too.
I understand what you're saying but the sight and the irons do not have to line up for both of them to be dead on.
Take it to the range and you'll see.
What sort of mount are you using?

It's mounted on a ghetto Samco quad rail. :)
Guys, thanks a lot, I think I just need to plug in more range time with the bugger.
I was using a red dot before, and set the dot right over the irons, I guess this thing is different.
Thanks for your help. :)

No offense but the Samco might be your problem. Try using an ARMS #39.

Expensive but a solid mount.

Cool mount, but I need the bottom rail too for a vertical grip.
I like the samco mount because it's light...I know I can get a milspec metal rail for around the same price.
I talked to customer service over at EOtech...they told me that someone (previous owner) probably backed out the elevation screw past its point, screwing it up a bit. They offered to fix it free of charge...VERY cool ppl.
Thanks for the help.

While the EOtech recticle and the front sight don't necessarily line up, if you throw the rear sight into the mix, all 3 should be able to line up (assuming your desired POI for both sights is about the same).

Mine lines up in the lower 1/3 because I have the LaRue mount, but yours should line up in the middle of the window. Granted, I have mine mounted on the receiver rather than the handguard, but that shouldn't really make a difference.
Glad to EOtech's costumer service is taking care of you. I'm sure when you get it back you'll love yours as much as I love mine!

There is a vert grip maker that doesn't require a rail. Its called the broomhandle something or other.
Here it is. I had to drill a small hole in my handguard to get the grip where I wanted it but im happy.
