As you all know, I own an 05 Mustang GT that I drive only in summer, on sunny days. Well, my winter car WAS an 05 Focus. Talk about a boring car to drive!! Well, after reflecting on what I could do about this quandry, I remembered that there IS a domestic FWD car that is fun to drive, so I bought:

So far, I LOVE it!! It's very fun to drive!

Cool. That would be the only Neon I would even consider owning.

I got rid of my 95 Cougar and got me one of these:

05 Toyota Corolla XRS

Getting groceries and going to work as never been so much fun.

Isn't it nice to have a cool, fun, car that you can drive year round!!

Yeah, I can't tell you how many times I just let 'er rip just to hear it wind up to 8200 rpm and bang through the gears. Then I just putt around and get around 30mpg in the city.

I just got new Falkens on her this morning. The Michelin Pilot Primacys (Primacies?) that came on it, just weren't cutting it in the snow (kept them because they do rock in the dry).

The 4 doors are the best part IMO. Plenty of room, fun to drive, economical on gas, and doesn't cost a lot. I like these little pocket rockets.

If I could afford a Subaru STi, I would have been all over that for winter driving.

But alas, I can't.

What you don't take the Lotus out in the snow?

Those SRT-4s are insane. Lot of speed for the money, FWD or not :)

Fun, fun ride, but those tires look half useless for the snow. Snow tires will make that thing even more fun and safe too. :)

Yeah, I am looking around for some take-offs, as they are everywhere, to put some winter rubber on.

Bah. How d'you think people got by before AWD and FWD? RWD with good tires and maybe a little weight in the back will take off like any FWD car and will handle far better once moving. The only advantage FWD has is that the engine sits over the drive wheels for traction from a stop.

Not that an STi wouldn't be sweet (last body style), but it's not really necessary if you can drive RWD. IMNSHO. :)

The SRT is amazing, I loved both examples I drove, and neither was an ACR version. Great looking ride. But describing the Focus as boring to drive?? I don't think they are at all....yeah they're slow, but they handle great. In fact, my ZX3 has IMO better steering feel then it's SRT Neon counterpart.

I was talking about the Sube for for winter driving ;)

I had 2 RWD cras before my rolla (300ZX and Merc Cougar). They were REALLY fun in the snow. I could drift them but without melting a set of tires off. But as a whole, the rolla is WAY better than either of them. Even in a straight line it would whoop the Z (judging by my seat o the pants meter).

I'm with you. The focus is a fun car to drive at 40mph and down. They do turn well and feel light on their feet. The SVT focus even more so.

ACR is for American Club Racing, it comes with 5 way adjustable shocks on all 4 corners, lightweight BBS rims, and stronger sway bars.

Cool, I didn't even know they made that one.

The SRT-4 is probably impossible to beat for the money

Bad tire choice for a winter/bad weather ride. Other than that they are pretty good deals. Lots of people on the Subaru forums hate on them, but that's mostly because lots of people that drive them are tools. Don't be that guy :)

The srt-4 is ok, but would be alot cooler if it wasnt a neon...;g

What's wrong with just a WRX? Why does it have to be an STI?

spoonhatchcrap

because the sti tranny is much stronger, the brakes are better and it has more power.

Don't forget the front LSD, steering rack, struts, wheels and HIDs :p

Well, it doesn't. I jsut like the STI better for obvious reasons. They are both out of my budget. I lucked out on the deal I got on my barely used Corolla XRS (5k on the odo and 5k less on the sticker ;)).

I like the Evos also, but everyone I know who has owned a Mitsubishi has had nothing but problems with them (mainly the tranny), so the Sube would be the one I would get if I were in the market for those kinds of cars.

Yea, that I mos def know. I couldnt afford a 32,00 dollar STI 3 years ago so I bought just the WRX. I have had zero problems and its got 59 thousand on it now. But, I understand the guys position.

amazing how they build a car every true car guy wants and then put it out of his price range huh.

227 :)

And the new ones are 230 with more torque.

And all but the 04 STIs come with stereos :)
