View Full Version : Bush CAR15M4
I'm looking at buying a Bushmaster Carbon 15 Model 4 for my first AR-15. Was wondering what you thought about that model - pros, cons, good/bad first AR-15...? The other rifle I like is the RRA Elite CAR A4. Thanks! (my first post on this forum):)

I had one of the Carbon 15 M4's. Great little gun and had no problems at all with it. Very lightweight. If you get one, I would get THIS (http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/Carbon15/az-c1516m4ft.asp) one.
Any reason to prefer the flat top model over the regular Model 4?
I was told you have to be really careful not to over-lube the Carbon 15's - is that true? Thanks!

I would pick the flat top because you could put a carry handle or optic on it. Plus with it being 16" barrel, the flashider is removable. I had the regular Model 4. Nothing wrong with it, but the flat top was not availble when I bought mine. Mine did have the 14.5" barrel with fixed "Izzy" flashider. One nice thing about mine was a normal bayonet would fit on it. It wont fit on regular 16" carbines.
Yes, the Carbon 15 AR's require very minimal lube. The carbon fiber in naturally slippery and very wear resistant. So lube VERY sparingly.
If you don't mind me asking - why did you get rid of your Carbon 15? Would you recommend something else (RRA, Armalite, DPMS) over a Bushmaster CAR15M4? Thanks!

get something else, many people on ar15.com have had problems with them and wouldnt take one if you gave it to them.

As I said before, I had no problems with mine at all. Pretty darn accurate to.
I guess I just prefered the regular AR receivers. If they had offered the regular flat top when I purchased mine, I would have probably bought one of those and still have it today.
in my onpinion you can't beat the RRA for the money. You get a lot of extras for same price you pay for a basic bushmaster and in my opinion the fit and finish on the RRA is top notch above others. THe only probem is trying to find a dealer that carries RRA's so you can check them out next to other ar15's. as soon as i did i knew i had to have a RRA so I went to my local dealer and oredered one, which cost me under 900. i bought the RRA Elite Car A4.

If limited to those two options, I'd go with the RRA.

+1
I'm not as strong as I was as a young pup, but when I finally get to the point where I can't hump a 6.5 pound "normal" aluminum-receivered AR carbine, then it might be time to hang up my spurs...
