View Full Version : G17 Rules!
My first Glock was a G23, I liked everything about it but the snappy recoil; much different than 1911's I was use to. Long story short, after going back to 1911's for a while I bought a G17 (my first 9mm)and love it! On the IDPA range my scores really improved. At home, it sits on my nightstand with a light attached & 17 rounds of JPH to provide security for my family.
I just got G26 for CCW and as a back up to the 17--a great duo!

I have the same set up for home defense a stock G17 loaded with 17 rounds of a quality JHP, and a Glock Light, locked in my coded lock box. I figure its perfect for what I need it for. I end up shooting the G17 the best besides the G34 that I briefly had, out of all the pistols ive shot. Not saying it was the most accurate, but I shoot it more consistant, and faster than other pistols.
And a Glock 17 out of a Kydex hoslter, is wicked fast on the draw and shot.

Swede,
How does the 34 compare to a 17? I've been thinking of renting one to try out at the range? I saw they were quite popular at the IDPA Nationals. Thanks.

Mike, I find the G34's longer sight radius more forgiving than my beloved G17's.
On a good day I can shoot the G17's just as well, but it's just easier to have an "on" day with my G34.
Thankfully I have both.
I still think the G17 is a better "all around" gun for me anyway.
I have had my G17 for 2 weeks now and have a little over 2000 rounds through it. I have had many Glocks over the years but never a 17. I wish I would have bought one sooner.

i have the choice of whatever i want to carry as a reserve deputy sheriff (as long as i qualify with it...)......i carry a G17 because it is all that one could ask for in a service type handgun.
in fact, if i can find the right OWB high ride holster like a fletch or something from high-noon......it could very well replace my G36 as my primary ccw piece.......
