View Full Version : Opinions on Aim Surplus AK47's
I'm thinking about ordering a Romanian WASR from Aim Surplus for $319. Are these particular AK's ok? Anything I need to know before I make up my mind?
Thanks/

Romanian AK's are not pretty but they do go bang every time you pull the trigger. It's a great starter AK. If you don't own any AK's now, you might as well go ahead and buy a bigger gun cabinet when you get your first one. You're gonna need it.

I'm about to leap into the world of AK's. I've researched pros and cons of various models and for my *first* AK, I've pretty much settled on the Romanian GP WASR-10 imported and assembled by Century International. I'm aware of the furniture and potential receiver filing I may have to do. I see aimsurplus has a GP WASR-10 w/ all the "extras" for $320. However, I also so that impactguns has the WASR-10 hi-cap version 2 for $300 w/o all the extras that aimsurplus offers, as well as the low-cap WASR-10 for $220:
GP WASR-10: http://aimsurplus.com/acatalog/NEW_AK_WASR_RIFLE_w__Bayonet_Lug___Muzzle_Break.html
WASR-10 hicap: http://www.impactguns.com/store/RI1166-N.html
WASR-10 locap: http://www.impactguns.com/store/RI1165-N.html
Per http://www.gunsnet.net/Linx310/model.htm#wasr10gp , I see that the $320 price aimsurplus is offering for the GP WASR-10 is fair, but are there any other dealers that have better deals with the quality of service offered by aimsurplus?

Personally I would check out the local shop, by the time you pay shipping and transfer you would be close to 400 which is what these things sell for around here. I prefer to touch, feel, smell and function check any gun before I purchase it. Especially the WASR's.
The last batch of 6 I've seen were ALL different in minute ways ..... all had the full wood stocks but finish and fit varied.
For a first-time AK, I would not get the low cap. Yes, you can do the work yourself and probably better than the monkeys at Century, but by the time you bring it into compliance, you'd spend about the same as buying it hi cap.
Like scromer said, AK's are addictive. You can't just have one. I've thinned the herd to only two right now, but there will be more. Soon!
Good luck !

How about accuracy from the Romanian AKs? How do they compare with Arsenal's and other US assembled AKs?

Have one and love it. Very good quality (internals), but if you want a pretty AK, you will want to do some custom finish on it.
