View Full Version : Russian AK clone
I don't know much about AKs, but I'd like to get one that is as close to a true Russian AK as I can. By close, I mean in terms of quality and finish. Any particular manufacturers fit this criteria?

Egyptian Maadi
And I am speaking of the original Pre-ban rifles, not the "parts" rifles that are post ban. The original pre-bans were made on Russian machines sold to the Egyptian Govt. They were made with all Russian supplied parts to build the guns. Then of course you can go with the "Russian" clones made by the Arsenal companies (both).

I agree, pre ban Steyer MAADIs are the best with the post ban Intrac ARM of 1993 manufacture a close second. They can be found at www.gunbroker.com search MAADI.

This is really for the original poster.
None of the Maadi's on Gunbroker right now are Pre-ban rifles. The one that says "Pre-ban" is not. It is my understanding that only the "Steyer" Maadi are pre-ban rifles, and they run in the $1k area. This was just an FYI, so you would not get your hopes up on a "Russian Clone" in the $300 range as most post ban Maadi's are.
BTW, also as another FYI, incase you wonder if Post ban Maadis are made on the same Russian machines, I am sure they are BUT most of the post-ban Maadis are parts guns made with a Maadi receiver and Chinese parts. There are some out there that are almost all Egyptian parts, mainly the ARM's (like the one listed on Gunbroker, but it is still not a pre-ban). Now that i have rambled on.....

I bought mine before the AWB sunsetted and it was around $825.I dont know if the prices has changed since then or not. That is a good chunk of cash for an AK but its worth every penny if thats what you want.I have not seen a finish on any AK that comes close to his.The fit and trigger is awesome.Give Chris a call he is very helpful and good to deal with and he can build it how you want.
