View Full Version : 11.5 and 14.5 Eagle Firearm Uppers Question
Within the next year I am going to purchase an AR15, with the wife's approval of course. I am looking at an Eagle Firearms upper and a Stag lower for $653.75 with shipping. My question is about the barrel length. They offer an 11.5 and a 14.5 inch barrel with no restrictions from what I can gather off of the website. Is it legal to buy these? I know they qualify as a short-barreled rifle and extra money has to be paid to uncle sam to shoot one at the range, but what is stopping me from buying an 11.5 or 14.5 inch barrel, slapping it on a lower reciever and keeping it in my home? I'm not trying to violate GLOCK Talk's rules about illegal activity here, i'm just curious as to whether I can or not since its in the privacy of my home. Any advice would be appreciated.
eagle wont ship a NFA upper without you showing proof you've paid the numbskulls in the ATF their pound of flesh.
There 14.5 upper says it is legal if you tack on $50 for a birdcage, would they ship then?
its only illegal if your caught, but that being said, it isnt worth 20 yrs in club fed for doing it.
Nothing is stopping you from doing it, its just not legal.

Yes , it is legal, they is just parts.... not restricted, the controlled part of the AR-15 is the lower (serial #)
I know they qualify as a short-barreled rifle (when assembled into a complete functioning firearm) and extra money has to be paid to uncle sam to shoot one at the range, but what is stopping me from buying an 11.5 or 14.5 inch barrel, slapping it on a lower reciever and keeping it in my home?
Uh, probably the fact that your text is locked in my post of your ideas on a public forum

An AR-15 rifle with a barrel shorter than 16", in the manner you describe, with no proper paperwork, is CONTRABAND, thus you is in possession of an unregistered NFA firearm, subject to 10yr / $10,000 fine, don't quote me on the fine though.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Best thing to do is so it right, like I did -- (1) approved ATF 5320.1, and this is what you can have, freely go to range and not worry about getting caught --

ICarryAGLOCK9mm, please research the term "constructive possession" for more info on why/how the government treats and prosecutes violations of this type.
