View Full Version : This thing is a blast to shoot!!!!!!
I've been shooting AR's for many years now, and had been considering a carbine in 9mm.
I always liked the HK mp5, 94 etc. series (who doesn't), but they are a little pricey, and I was always very hesitant about getting a clone.
Out of all the 9mm carbines out there, I finally ended up getting a Beretta Storm....I hated it! I sold it 2 days after I bought it.
So, I finally came across a spectacular deal on a NIB Colt 6450 9mm. I loved it from the first shot. This thing is awesome! It is more fun to shoot than any other long gun I've ever shot! I'm sure you can tell that I like it.
I just want to let you guys know that if you are considering, or considered getting a quality AR in 9mm...get one, you'll love it!
SBR here I come:)

SBR 9mm is gonna be one of my next AR projects.
Yeah, I need to take some pics. It looks exactly like this...
And hopefully sooner than later....it will look like this;f

That looks like a load of fun. Next to SBR the only thing that it looks like it is missing is some sub-sonic and a can.
I bought a storm in .40 earlier this year and really like it (and I consider myself primarily an AR affectionado).
What didn't you like about the storm?

The mags in the pic hold 32, these are Uzi mags. I bought a block to run std Uzi mags as-is, because I have Uzi also. I do not care about bolt hold open, been shooting Uzi for 17yr, no hold open there...
Colt AR/M16 32rd mags will run up to $75, depending on where you buy... $55-65 is a "steal".

Well, first off, I shoot all rifles left handed (right hand-left eye dominant)and the Beretta was without doubt very left friendly which was a huge consideration when trying to decide what to get.
I liked the weight and balance of the Storm. I thought the sights were pretty decent...very accurate! I liked that it had a chrome lined barrel. I got the "tactical package" and felt the price was good for what you got, well made, and I'm sure a few other features I liked, but just can't remember them at this time.
What I didn't like.....I'm not crazy about the look of the gun, but could live with it providing it performed well.
Every shot I took would send a "shock" through the stock that kinda stung my cheek. I'm not sure what that was all about..I used to have an HK USC .45 carbine years ago, and never did that?!?!? Not that it was that big of a deal, but kind of annoying.
I didn't like the mag release, and the safety, maybe I am just so used to the AR15 controls.
I don't care for a carbine that takes the mag in the grip like a handgun...remember, I shoot rifles left handed...handguns right handed, so it's not even close to being what I'm used to. I figured that out after I bought the Storm.
I didn't like the fact that it has a plastic hammer...not that it broke or gave me problems. I would like to think that Beretta did it's R&D and found that the plastic hammer is more than capable of handling x amount of rounds with no problems. Even so, I don't like it...just being honest.
The biggest issue I had with the gun was the 30 pound trigger pull!! Ok, maybe not that much....but it felt like it. I did some research, and found a few articles on trigger jobs etc. but at this point I think I already decided that "this is not the one".
Other than the horrible trigger, I think that overall it is a very handy, well made, affordable carbine that will do what most people expect it to do, and maybe even a little more for some people. It just wasn't for me, and I know myself well enough after buying, selling, and trading guns for enough years now that if I'm not totally satisfied with something....it's only a matter of time and it will be sold or traded sooner or later.

Excellent post; it addressed many of the questions I had been considering about that weapon, especially since I share your "affliction" (cross-dominant hand and eye).

Thanks, and yes, as far as the "affliction" goes...I think it would be very hard to find a rifle that is more left hand friendly than the AR series...you just gotta love 'em!;)
