View Full Version : Heinie Sights
I shoot IDPA & target. My Glock 17 shoots pretty accurately with stock sights. What advantage would I gain by going to another sight? Someone at the range says that they really like Heine Slant/Pros (not night type). If another sight system would improve my accuracy I would invest in the change.
i use the heinie rear with a dawson fiber optic front, much better than the factory sights.

I changed my sights on my G19 and saw an immediate improvement over my stock sights. It's not that the stock sights are all that bad, but the sights are fat in comparison to my TruGlow's. It just makes me focus more attention on building a good site picture and thus get better results. I haven't replaced the sites yet on my G21, but I probably will eventually given the results I got on the G19.
I shoot IPSC/USPSA & IDPA and have Slant Pros on my 21C. Love them far better than the stock sights. Only thing I would like to change would be to open up the rear just a bit like the "race cuts" that Custom Glock does, and add a Dawson FO front.
I was looking into changing to fiber optic on my G35, and purchased the Dawson Fiber front sight... and it is tooo tall.
Do the Heini Slant Pro's just drop in? or am I seeing a gunsmith to cut a new dove tail?
Haven't researched yet, and would sure like to make the swap... so I appreciate the feedback!
TIA
Merry Christmass!
Heine Slant Pros
I am able to pick up the sight picture much quicker and I don't have any white dots or lines there to distract me.
PS-
If you shot IDPA last Tues @ the Bullet Hole then it was likely me that you talked to, I seem to remember having that conversation recently.
One thing I did not mention there... I have the sight tool and am willing to put them on for free if we meet up at a shooting event or something. I did not offer that there at the BH because I don't want to step on their toes, and would not do it there at the BH.

Heinie's are the best fixed sight IMO.
A sharp, clearly defined sight picture is the main benifit. The front is also thinner than the stock sight.
Most of the folks at the range where I shoot IDPA use the original Heinie sights. Some use night sights, most just use the normal original Heinie. A few have Heinie rear and Dawson front.

Fiber optic front sights, like HiViz or TruGlo. Someone mentioned Dawson.
Whatever works for your eye. It's important for me because I have bad eyes to begin with (geezerhood).

I have the Heinie/Dawson pair on my G34 IDPA gun.
But it all kind of depends how you choose to sight up the target. Most IDPA targets are less than 10 yds, and I sight-up with target eye focus, both eyes open - not front sight focus (that takes longer). The front sight is a slight blur this way, but plenty accurate for the 8inch idpa ring at less than 10yds.
The more I mess with sights the more I think it doesn't really matter that much for IDPA. I even lost my front sight once and still did just fine with total point-shoot method.
Now an IDPA head shot from 10+ yards I would likely miss this way, so I would try to use front sight focus.
A much better sighting system is the "heads up display" red-dot, or C-more type. But this is not allowed in idpa and makes one's gun a little bulky and impractical for carry.

I just changed the factory sights on the G34 I use for IDPA and other shooting sports. I'm now using Dawson Precision FO front and rear sights. Faster on target at any range than the stock sights and a significant difference in precision when shooting at distance.
I too shoot at the Bullet Hole for practice and for the AASA and other matches; whenever not competing at Blackhawk.

Heinie Slant Pro Straight Eights IMO are by far the best sights. I have tried almost ever night sight combination you can think of, even some custom ones and Heinies got them all beat so far. PGH~

If you mean too tall for the glock rear sight, you got the one w/c should be paired w/ Dawson rear sights. Replace it w/ the one w/ dawson part # 019-001. Its in their catalog but not seen in their on-line store so its best to communicate w/ them directly. Believe me, Dawson customer service is the best I've experienced so far.
Hope this helps.:)

Heinies are faster and more precise than factory sights. A very good choice.
I've read where there is a lot of praise for Heinie sights, but I have also read where they have a tendency to get loose after some time - rear sight.

That happened once in awhile with the old ones, they have all had setscrews for sometime now which totally eliminates that problem.
I just put Heinie straight 8 slant pro's on my carry 19. They're some of the best sights I've laid eyes on. They're new but don't have the set screw in the rear. Should I be concerned?

You must have gotten some old stock then. They should be fine. If you are really worried you can drill and tap a ss in there.
thanks! I figure if they ever do shoot loose I'll just put 2 set screws in them like arotek sights.

I would go with a large single screw.

I am thinking of putting some Heinie straight 8 slant pro night sites on my G26.
Any reccommendations on where to purchase them?

I have a couple of 19's, both with Heinie sights.
The first is the plain ole' slant pro, race cut with the Heinie front. It's quick and sharp. No complaints but a little tough when shooting black plates or poppers. Night shoots are rather entertaining.
The other gun has the non-race cut rear and the Dawson front. I'll install these tonight and use them this weekend for a class.
I really do like the Heinie sights over factory.

newbie question alert!!!
What is "race cut" and how does it benefit you vs just using the stock sights?

They have a wider rear notch which gives you mor elight on the sides of the front when aligned which translates to faster sight pickup, recovery and more precision.
CGR, I should have my Slant Pro Straight 8 Race cuts on my porch in an hour or two from you and I CAN"T WAIT to get them installed!!!!!
