View Full Version : AR15 selector switch safe/fire
I just bought a new Bushmaster with a ambedextrious safety. Selector switch on both sides. It is a real inconveince and not very smooth. I want to get rid of the switch on the right side since I am a right handed shooter. How do you go about doing this? Is it complicated? Looks like an alenwrench could be used?
Thanks
Hmm, how would you feel about a trade?
What do you have?

I have a CMT lower parts kit right hand only selector, if you're interested. Email in bound.

It's not too hard. A suitable sized Allen wrench will work, if it reaches deep enough into the pistol grip to reach the bolt. Someweapons may use a flat head screw instead inside the pistol grip. Seperate the lower from the upper receiver on the UNLOADED rifle. Start by loosening the bolt in the pistol grip. Once it's fully loosened, pull the pistol grip straight down slowly untill it comes free. The safety selector detent will probably stay in the receiver, but the spring that holds it in will come out with the pistol grip. It seats in a hole in the pistol grip. Be careful when you reassemble to avoid bending the spring. Flipping the selector detent back and forth a couple times, and then lightly rapping the receiver, bottom end down on your palm should cause the selector detent to drop from its hole into your hand. The selector's halves will be secured together by means of a screw of some type. Using an appropriate tool, remove the screw, and you should then be able to pull the halves out of the receiver. This done, the standard selctor lever can be inserted into the receiver from the left side. you may now reinstall the selector detent, with the pointy end toward the selector. The safety selector detent spring should be in its hole in the pistol grip (doesn't matter which direction it is oriented) and the pistol grip pushed straight back up (be careful not to bend or kink the spring!) into the receiver. Then tighten the pistol grip screw back up. Don't forget to lightly grease the detent channel on the selector before installation for smoother operation.
