View Full Version : Building your own questions?
If I were to buy a kit...and say a Ewbanks receiver and assemble it.
Is this legal or do I need to worry about US compliance and all that garbage. What are the laws pertaining to this?
You can legally build your own gun.
You would have to include US made compliance parts.
Go read the FAQ's over on the ATF site.
You will need the kit and (6) US made compliance parts:
Receiver (1)
FCG (3)
pistol grip (1)
gas piston (1)or slant brake (1)
Just make sure you have a total of (6) of these US made parts!!
Other than that, no problem.
Keep in mind, it's not the number of US parts that matters, it's all about how many Imported parts are used. No more than 10 are allowed.
The number of total "countable" parts varies by model.
A stamped receiver AK with a muzzle brake has 16 countable parts.
So in that instance you must have at least 6 US made countable parts.
A milled receiver AK W/MB or a stamped WO/MB has 15 countable parts, milled WO/MB=14.
AMD-65 with barrel extension=17

Copes Distributing has a hand-picked, numbers matching Romy kit, complete with G2 trigger fire control group (3-U.S. parts) for $125.
Add a $10 U.S. pistol grip, a $14 U.S. slant brake, a $60 U.S. receiver, and an $8 pack of rivets, and you've got yourself a 922r compliant AK for a small cash layout.
