I was looking through the Bushmaster catalog for random accessories, and found some parts for attaching a bipod. However, the bipods retracted length was 9 inches. Im not 100 percent sure, but I would think that this would be too long for a 16 incher.
Are there any good bipods available specifically designed for shorter barrels? I would think that the muzzle brake/flash hider would eat away at a normal bipod.
Thanks!

I have used a Harris 6 to 9 inch for years and have never had any problems with it at all. Use it, enjoy it.

I have a Harris 9-13 and measured a couple things that may help. Folded the legs extend 6.5" beyond the sling stud. I have a rifle length handguard on my carbine and the legs extend 2.5" beyond the muzzle. I'm not sure where you're attaching it but with carbine handguards I don't see how it would be a problem.
I'm planning on replacing the 9-13 with a 6-9 so I can shoot with the legs folded, the rifle is still a work in progress.
Hope that helps.

The Harris bipods are quick-detachable when mounted to a standard swivel-stud; just a quick turn with a coin to get it loose, and then spin the screw 6-7 turns, push in, squeeze the opposing stud lock plates, and pop it off.
If you have a rail on the bottom of your handguards, several companies make a QD bipod adapter; squeeze a release lever and slide it off.
Although you CAN carry the weapon with the bipod in place and the legs folded, why leave all that extra weight hanging off your gun if you don't need it at the moment? Carry the bipod in a fanny pack or something until you think you might need it, then pop it on. If the legs are too long to shoot with them folded, then you can move short distances with the legs down (in shooting position) without too much trouble (unless you're in a jungle). ;)
