DPMS has this as an option and I was wondering what would the advantage be in having this?
I am considering either a DPMS 16 inch M-4gery or a RRA mid-length Elite CAR UTE2. I know that DPMS also has the option of having a cromed bolt carrier as well.

I don't have any personal experience with either but the general concensus is that it's best to stay with mil-spec.
The DPMS you are refering to is probalby the TiN which is just a gold colored coating. Titanium doesn't have the mass or strength for either part. The only advantage to TiN is the look, it's a pretty fragile finish too.
Hard Chrome; some say it will peel but I doubt it. Again the looks are pretty much the advantage to chrome, it may be a bit eisier to clean but then it will show dirt better so take your pick.
DPMS is not the best name for bolts anyway, I'd pick up a RRA or CMT they are mil-spec with the hard-chrome inside only. Either would work fine and cost less. Try www.eaglefirearms.net a while back they were doing RRA B/C/CH for $105 shipped.

One key thing to think about is that TiN makes the surface incredibly hard and smooth. And that is good for the bolt and carrier. It is not good for the upper receiver to have a metal dramatically harder than the UR metal sliding against it, and will eventually grind it apart. This could take a while, though.
I do not recommend for or against, for that reason.
