I purchased a Colt (NRM) Commander. After problems with the mag release which is now fixed I decided to keep it and I want to do a little customizing on the gun. I am not for sure what I want outside of the Beavertail and ext. thumb saftey. I would like suggestion that you have done and like or did not like. Pictures would be great. Has anyone ever had just the frame hard cromed by Gemini? Wonder how it would look?

I have a Commander XSE in stainless and I made a few changes. I immediately got rid of that goofy beavertail and put a Wilson DROP-IN in it's place. It really did "DROP-IN" too. All it took to get it working was a few strokes with some sandpaper. Next I added a Arched Mainspring Housing from Brown with a reduced power Mainspring. I also replaced all the pins in the MSH too just for good measure. I had it all apart anyway and the replacement parts were only about $3.00 so why not?

I LOVE the way it feels now with the arched MSH. I will hold my NRM government for a few minutes and then grab my XSE with the arched MSH and it is shocking how much better it feels to me.

The next thing I might change is the sights. I am thinking about trying the Chip McCormick fixed sights that use the existing dovetail cut.
I would also like to try some SLIM Grips, but I haven't had the chance to put my hands on a pair yet.

What are you thinking of doing?

I have purchased Wilsons, beavertail, extended slide stop, extended thumb saftey, and a new magazine release (the original was having problems). I was thinking about have the front strap done and a hard chrome on the frame only.

I hope you replaced the Mim mag release with a good one. I would change the hammer to a combat style and also an aluminum three hole trigger.

The mag release was a Wilson Tactical Mag release. I had thought about changing the hammer and trigger also. Thanks for the help. I think the hard chrome would look good. I wished someone would post a picture of what it looks like and how good it will wear.

If you follow this link and scroll down reading the descriptions you will see some examples of hard chrome. The thread is 3 pages, you are starting on 2. There may be more examples on the other pages.

If I was going to carry it,the first thing I would check out would be relialability. I'd want it to be 100% relialable. Second I check to see if it was accurate enough for my needs. Third, if the trigger
did'nt make me happy, I'd see about getting it worked on. If I was happy with the above mentioned things, I'd then work on the finish, and other things. By the way congrats on the pony.

If you're getting the entire pistol HC'd would certainly get a drop-in or fitted EGW angle-bore bushing. Trigger looks like the heavy steel one that came out own Colt Comm. It's channel needed some cleaning up inside. Virgil Tripp is also an exc. Smith who will go thru your Comm. before he plate's it and will let you know if it needs work or anything.

I just heard about "Tripp" tonight. I seen a Para that had been there and I am thinking about having the same done to my commander.

I like the chrome on the bottom and blue on top.

If it's a serious carry-gun, and it fires every time you pull the trigger.... leave it alone and get it hard chromed (check out Accurate Plating and Weapons).

That is one good looking Series 70. That is the next one on my list. I do carry it. It is reliable, but I think I want the beavertail if nothing else.

Last Time I spoke with Marc at Gemini he was sending HC jobs to Tripp.
