But it's your rifle, enjoy! Glockdude1 01-04-2006, 17:46 Ron3, I plan on keeping the original parts, just in case my rifle needs another "change"...... ;N Ballistic 01-05-2006, 21:32 Save the black plastic for the AR's.... Really. AK's look better in wood. But hey it's your gun. I'll buy the pistol grip from you if you want to sell it. Glock24/7 01-06-2006, 04:01 Originally posted by Ron3 Honestly, I liked the original better. I'll buy the pistol grip from you if you want to sell it. Yes, I know what the original "Checkered AK Pistol grips" are selling for these days (I plan on keeping the original wood). I was going to have the rear trunion changed out. I was going to "cut the tang" and go with a sidefolder. Almost all the gunsmiths here did not want to mess with the rivets. The ones that would do the work, wanted to charge me a ton of money. The pic is of my first Mak-90 I changed the "butthole" stock to a real 4 piece black walnut stock set. ;N cjlandry 01-07-2006, 23:53 Some folks see AK's as works of art. Others see them as tools. I'm one of the latter. I like the Collapsable AR-type stock. The wood is still available if you want to sell it to a purist, but the plastic makes it lighter and more of a joy to shoot. My latest is ugly as sin, but a joy to shoot. Just like my Glocks. http://www.landry-family.com/AK47/grnromy1.jpg I just bent a flat today to build another Romy kit. This one will be done in black plastic. Glockdude1 01-08-2006, 13:44 cjlandry, How do like that sidefolder you have on your AK? ;N cjlandry 01-08-2006, 17:02 Originally posted by Glockdude1 cjlandry, How do like that sidefolder you have on your AK? ;N It's butt-ugly, but it works like a charm. I've run 500 rounds through the gun with this stock, and I'm happy. I can't shoot worth a **** with the baby stock that comes with these things. The ugly side-folder Galil wannabe is about 1-1/2" longer than the original romy stock, and it handles the recoil just fine. I also require a folding stock because I keep the gun and mags in a short duffle in my truck, rather than an obvious rifle case. Bottom line is that it's a cheap way to have a reliable rifle with a folding stock. My AK build-buddy just built an underfolder. I hope to get a chance to shoot it soon. DHoback 01-08-2006, 19:44 Um, yuck! But if your happy, than so am I. I like black poly furniture.... The Bulgy type that K-var sells. The Bulgy AK-74 is my favorite style. I hate all the other crap that is sold. The AR buttstocks are horrible. Ron3 01-08-2006, 22:11 What is a Chinese wood grip with checkering worth? I've seen this mentioned a few times. Glockdude1 01-08-2006, 23:06 Not to long ago the wood chinese checkered pistol grips, that came on the "pre ban" (before 1989) were worth about $5 to $10. Now since the ban died, their value has skyrocketed!! http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=463614 ;N Ron3 01-09-2006, 12:05 Thats nuts! I wouldn't mind having one, but why not just a buy an uncheckered us-made one for far less? Heck I could checker it myself. Glockdude1 01-09-2006, 18:41 My father got into checkering his guns when he retired. He became addicted to checkering not to long after. Now anything made of wood in his house is not safe!! ;N BigAlE 01-10-2006, 00:43 I love the original look major 01-12-2006, 07:02 another vote for the original. Glockdude1 01-12-2006, 17:05 The weapon is now about 1 1/2 pounds lighter than it was before. Anyone make mods to their AK? ;N chevrofreak 01-13-2006, 01:35 I hate wood. http://files.chevrofreak.com/guns/MAK-90/AK_final.jpg Glockdude1 01-13-2006, 08:35 chevrofreak, Nice set up. One reason I like the looks of an AK over an AR. .30 01-29-2006, 11:56 For me on an AK, it really does not matter if it is plastic or wood. I like them both if they are done right. But that AR collapsible needs to go Glockdude1. Now a underfolder on that would really make that an even better Ak. salvo 01-29-2006, 12:57 I like both! Here i a pic with my two Bulgarian sisters. SA-93, top SLR-100H, bottom http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d71/SeaOx/Guns/MVC-887F.jpg Glockdude1 01-30-2006, 04:07 salvo, The AK on the bottom, How old is that rifle? ;N salvo 01-30-2006, 09:34 It was built by Gordon Tech, using a new Bulgarian Arsenal receiver and I believe a Hungarian parts set. So the wood and parts could be pretty old. I bought it from Gordon Tech around 1997 I think, I'll have to check my records when I get home for sure. BTW, does any body know were I can buy a parkerized finished slant brake for it? Michigun 01-31-2006, 14:44 I’m of the belief that wood has NO PLACE on a gun of ANY type! (Of course this is coming from someone who actually uses his stuff… wood cracks, breaks, swells, shrinks, its heavy & most of the time its more $$$!) HOWEVER, I’m also not a fan of cheap synthetic furniture & there is a LOT of that out there for the AK! Here’s my own “low-speed/old-school” ;) Norinco “stamped” MAK-90 Sporter w/K-VAR furniture: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v733/Michigun/MAK-90/MAK-90K-VAR.jpg And here’s my “high-speed/up-dated” ;) East German AK-47 (its Surefire light is mounted on the other side of the aluminum lower handguard ^c): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v733/Michigun/EG/1F.jpg . I personally don't care for the Tapco-type stuff. Does it handle any better? Never shot one with that type of stock. Glockdude1 02-10-2006, 17:09 Originally posted by .30 You folks have some nice AK's:) BTW Glockdude1, how is that AK collapsible stock treating you? Does it handle any better? Never shot one with that type of stock. Yes, I like the new stock. The whole new stock set up has made the gun alot lighter and eaiser to handle. It shoots great. With the collapsible stock, you can adjust it to whatever you are wearing, ie, T-shirt or jacket. I wanted to have the rear trunion changed out, so I could put a left side folding krinkov style stock on it. Every gunsmith I talked to ethier wanted to charge me a fortune to do it, or wanted nothing to do with it. I went with the M16 style stock instead. Stock, grip, and forearm cost me $85 shipped. I used my dremel tool to "fit" it all together. ;N dfbarnes 02-12-2006, 11:47 I know my pic below is on GT already in a few places... but I have to put it here as another vote for PLASTIC. ;-) http://home.comcast.net/~dfbarnes/DSCF0010.JPG Glockdude1 02-12-2006, 14:41 dfbarnes, Nice rifle........ ;a dfbarnes 02-12-2006, 15:03 Thanks!
