Howdy. Just got this today. A Super Redhawk chambered in 454 Casull. Shot 20 rounds of 454 and a box of 50 of 45 Colts today at the range. All I can say is hold on tight. After a few 454 the Colt rounds were like shooting 38's in my 357. That's a big time round. Anyone else like shooting 454's? What a rush.

It's sheer exiliration when you tap one of those off. I had to give up my rugers recently. The whole song and Dance, Young and married, man that hurt. Out of all the ones I miss belive it or not its the .357 black hawk with houge grips. Loved it.

I love shooting big bore handguns. These are my 2 Magnum Research BFR Revolvers in .45-70 and .500 S&W Mag. Both have 10" barrels.

Another in .454 Casull Love the look of these guns. I have a friend that recently had an unfired collection of the Big 5 BFRs stolen. Pretty damn sad. I fondled a couple one time. It's a shame, but I bet they will never be recovered.
I was at the Range this weekend and noticed that they had a Target Gray Super Redhawk in .454 Casull for Rent. I've never shot one so I rented it. Awesome gun and caliber! After the .454 I put some .45 Long Colt through it and it was like .22long!
"Hi, everybody, My name is Skyhook and I'm a Recoil Junkie."
Well, not every minute, but when I long for that big snap, I also go out with my SRH in .454.
I have been reloading for that for a while - in both .45 Colt and .454- and have enjoyed each and every outing.
I also have learned that when you set up on line, it's best to caution the folks in the lanes next to you that- if they hadn't noticed- you are about to alter the environment a little. It makes for good manners and shows consideration.;f

Yes, good info Skyhook. I sound out a warning before I let a 454 fly. Had the whole range watching me once. ;f

^c dogbite. Hold on tight. ;f
I shot my 454 SRH today. Wow, I was very impressed. It was very powerful and very accurate. I love it!!!
Yesterday afternoon I reloaded 100rnds of .45LC for the SRH.
230gr FMJ over 9.0gr Power Pistol. The vel. is supposed to be in the 900'/sec category so it should be fun to shoot.
Tomorrow, I intend to load up some 300gr Speer HP in the .454 performance level. Different beast, same gun.;f

Gotta love the SRH .454 Casull! Especially for the price and having the Ruger reputation for durability. Basically it's three calibers in one: 45colt, 45colt+P, and the mighty .454 Casull. Since I got into reloading though, I don't see much use in the 45 colts. I can load the .454 cases from light plinkers all the way up to my self imposed limit of 300gr Hornady XTP's with 32.5gr of H110. First shot with this load and I thought I blew up the gun.;P Cases came out easily though but sometimes it makes the cylinder unlock.
Longhohrglock, what are the cup with that load (300gr Hornady XTP's with 32.5gr of H110.)? Seems kinda heavy.

I'd be lying to you if I told you a figure, I honestly don't know. I got the load data from www.loadswap.com I believe. Actually the load data maxes at 32.8gr of H110 but I ain't going any further. BTW do not take what I posted as gospel. All .454 loaders get your load data from a reliable source, not me! Now with that outta the way, After firing the brass came out easily and the primers do not show to be flattened so I believe I'm staying on the sane side of cautious. I've fired Factory Hornady 300gr's that stuck the cylinder and flattened the primer but didn't feel as strong as my loads FWIW. Does anybody know a good source that lists the factory makeup of loads like the 240gr,300gr Hornady or the various Corbon loads?

 I have a Raging Bull with the 6 inch barrel. I really like the gun! I've had it for several years. Then Ruger had to go make the Super Redhawk Alaskan! Yes, I just got one. It is for Hiking, fishing, and such, in the Northland. It is one that I'll carry often, and shoot little. Except for fun! Have fun & stay safe!;z

Sounds like the indicators are showing a safe load. I would also appreciate that 'Factory Makeup' loading data.
