Saw a nice Dan Wesson Pointman Major at the shop today. 5" slide, brushed s/s finish, adjustable sights, .45ACP. Looked to be fired very little. Serial number is 45MJ00XXX. Have any idea how old this one is and what is a good price? He's asking $500 for it. Thanks, Terry

BTW, does the fact that it's a pre-CZ gun make it more valuable?

It's a pretty good price. The CZ versons will be more expensive new. NOthing major I can think of that is wrong with the PMM. You can always check into 1911forums.com, the Dan Wesson subforum for the gory details. If I had 500$ spare, I'd probably get it.

FWIW, I have a DW CCO.

Good deal, get it, now! If you don't, someone that knows what is being offered will jump on it. I have 4 DW 1911's, damn nice guns. Fortunately for me, I bought mine before the price way up.

I've handled 2 new SS PMs @ $600 firm that did not lock up well; so--check the barrel lock up prior to buying.

Seemed to lock up OK. there is a little bit of wiggle in the slide when you rock it back and forth closed, but no more than most 1911's I've had. I wouldn't expext it to be super tight like a much more expensive custom gun. Going back to look at it again tomorrow. I'll probably take some money with me too;) Terry

Went back again today. I can get it for $475, but after thoroughly looking it over, I'm still not sure. Why you ask? I don't like the sights/ It has a dot up front and the adj Millett type target sight in the back that is screwed into a raised part of the slide. Not to many options for a replacement I guess. I just think it is kinda flimsy in a way and the notch is too shallow for the front sight. A good sight picture cuts off half of the dot on the front sight. Fit, finish, and condition are great. If it had fixed sights on it, I'd be taking pictures of it right now at home. Anyone else know what I'm talking baout with the sights and would that be a deal breaker for you on such a nice gun at such a nice price? Terry

Here's a stock photo of the one I'm talking about. Can I change these kind of sights ever?

$475?? and it's not at home yet? Somebody can replace that rear sight for you, even if they have to mill out a slot...it wouldn't cost THAT much...

Hey, WillieD. What is the name and phone number of the shop with the DW 45? If you don't buy it because of the sights, I'll have it sent to my ffl guy.

It's home safe with me now;f I took it over to the neighbors to show him. I thought he would start to pick it apart right away ( he has a $2200 Nighthawk custom) and he couldn't beleive how nice a gun it was for the price. Still have to get out and shoot it though. Hope it's reliable. I think the guy traded it in with a junky mag. Does push the slide release up the whole way. Hope the slide doesn't ride over the stop on the last round. I put a Novaks ACT mag in it and it looks like it should. Terry
