refinishing AR magazines

is there anything special i need to do to refinish an AR magazine. I have one that is discolored and id like to give it a new look finish. is there a special paint or something i need to use? we dont have any specialty gun shops around, so the paints i use will have to come from the auto parts place or hardware store. Id also like to know how to take the magazine apart. It has the clamps over the floorplate. thanx

Degrease light steel wool and I have used a product called aluma hyde
from brownells product # 083-003-002
