View Full Version : Need buying advice (Kimber Eclipse PLE II)?
Can anyone here help me with this limited edition Kimber?
I have the opportunity to purchase a Kimber Eclipse PLE II.
Description form Kimber's website:
"232 produced. Eclipse Pro II finish on slide with black over stainless frame(no front strap checkering), 4" bushingless barrel, charcoal/ruby Kimber logo grips. SOld only through stores affiliated with Sports Incorporated buying group. 35oz. MSRP $877.
The gun is in excellent conditon with a documented/logged 232 rounds through it. Comes with all the original box, accessories, etc, 2 Kimber mags and a Chip McCormick mag. There's also a used but not abused Galco holster that comes with it for a price of $700.
Deal or no deal? What's to like about it?
I am not a 1911 afficianado but want a Commander-size 1911 for carry.
Your thoughts please.
Thanks!

Sounds good to me. It was before the external extractors and after the Series II learning curve.

So I guess these are both desirable features?
Are the internal extractors better? How can you tell if this was made before the external extractors became standard? I have heard they had to make several revisions to get them to work correctly.
What makes the Series II better?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm a wheelie guy and this 1911 stuff is new to me. Thanks!

How do you know that?
The gun was made in early 2003. It was before Kimber started the conversion to external extractors.
I didn't say the Series II was better, I said that 2003 was after Kimber sorted out the problems in the first year (2001.) Initially, the shape of the push rod and shape of the front of the plunger of the Series II safety weren't as beveled as they are now. It caused FTRTB problems until the edges of the push rod wore off. Kimber started changing that in late 2001 from what I've seen.
Good info Kruzr!
Anyone else think I should jump on this?
The holster that comes with it is a Galco Silhouette.

I have two of these. 1 internal, and 1 external. They are both flawless guns. Run 100%.

Looks almost exactly like that but the front strap is not checkered and there's a slight scratch from where it was taken down. The gun is so smooth and I've been wanting a Commander-sized 1911. I may just trade into it.
Do you think the price is fair?
weekend bump for more input please.
You mean you didn't buy it yet? ;)
With less than 300 rounds through it, IMO the price is more than fair for such a limited edition. I don't think you can call it a steal but I wouldn't say it's overpriced either. It's about what it's worth. If you like the gun, get it.
