Thinking of trying real hard to save up money and get a bobber 10mm instead of the Glock 29. But the DW is twice the price of the G29. I gotta look around the house and find stuff I can sell. I am down to only three guns and can't sell them (first gun ever, carry revolver, levergun for hunting).
The CZ site says $1169 and I found some .45 bobbers on gunbroker are at $929 and up. Is this about right for street prices? What did you pay?
I've only ever seen the commander sized 10mm on Gunbroker myself. Honestly for that price, rounding up to $1,100, a truly custom 1911 could be purchased for not too much more and I'd venture to guess that the QC would be better, slide to frame fit better, and accuracy would be better.
That said, yes I'd like to have a commander sized 1911 in 10mm!

I got mine right before xmas at a gun show. It is the pre cz with an external extractor. Was brand new. Price was 850. I traded a brand new kimber custom II for it straight up. I nearly ran out of the show in case the dealer realized what he had just done. I love the gun. Am still in the 500 round break in period but it is shooting perfect and smooth. Good luck in your hunt. If you have not been to guns america try there, they sometimes turn up.

Yup those be the ones. I could do the Para ream and spring thing for cheaper, but the DW looks better IMO. I think some did hit the market. There are a couple on 10mmtalk.com in people's hands. Those might be the older ones. Any difference between the two?
Gunbroker just has the .45 bobbers, not the 10mm's. If Ed Brown made the bobtail MSH for the widebodies like Para and STI, I would jump on one of those in a heartbeat.
Pre-CZ I am pretty sure that the bob tails made it to the market in 10mm. Over on the 1911 forum site I seem to recall those being out and they, DW that is, was even looking @ bringing out a 9x23W Bob! Then CZ stepped in.

Here's a couple pics of mine. I've since changed the trigger and had an EGW oversized firing pin stop installed. It was a bit finiky the first couple hundred rounds, but runs great now.

Delicious!
I just emailed my dealer if he can get a 10mm Bob recently

I think I might just buy a 40cal 1911 single stack and have my 'smith bob it with Brown's MSH. I was on gunbroker and some prices caught my eye. The Para P16-40 would be cool too, but I couldn't bob it and that is what I really want in my 1st 1911. I could do the Para P16 later, but I just have an insatiable facination for the Bobtail MSH. Call it obsession at first sight.
I think I am going to swap out some stock parts and add Brown's memorygroove beavertail safety, wide thumb safety, and possibly get a Bar-Sto drop in from MidwayUSA instead of having it reamed. I could sell it to offset some of the cost of the new barrel. Don't know for sure. Gotta get money together and get the gun first. Then I can work on fixing it up a bit. Call it a Budget Bobtail. Will probably take less time than getting a DW bobber in hand.
Thanks to all who replied, I appreciate it.

Here's a few more 1911 10mms. The Paraordnance P16 conversion is a lot of fun. I'd still like to pick up an Omega, and maybe a Kimber some day.

Nice collection of 10mm's.
I think I am going to go the 40cal 1911 conversion. Who makes 40cal single stacks commander size? Used only, no new ones. Single stack first, then the Para-I will stock up on mags as I find them though. I did see a P10-40 on gunbroker for like $350. Ouch! Hurts thinking of that in 10mm.
I think Kimber does. Colt maybe?

Kimber did, but I'm not sure if it's still cataloged. Just be sure to get one with a steel, not alloy frame. Also, there's a few mods you can do that will help the gun handle the increased wear of the hotter 10mm cartridge.
1) Upgrade to a 20-24lb recoil spring and use a shok-buff (I like a 22lb spring in most of my 10mms and I replace the shok-buff about every 500 rounds).
2) Be sure that the slide stop notch is cut out (this is where the early Colt Deltas were cracking).
3) Install an EGW oversized firing pin stop.
As for reliability I also like to upgrade the mag springs in my 1911 10mms with a Wolff +10% spring. Because of the increased slide velocity sometimes the standard spring can't get the next round up quite fast enough for the slide to strip it from the mag and chamber it correctly.

Thanks for the wearing tips.
Why not an alloy frame? Is it a wear issue or just a weight/recoil absorbing issue?
I was going to be a sick puppy and eventually swap out the stock frame for Caspian's Series 70 Titanium frame, then Hard Chrome the frame and slide and switch out the internals from the stock 1911 to the Ti frame.

An alloy frame might work with a Ruger as they are pretty beefy, but I just don't think it would hold up in most other designs, especially a 1911. A polymer frame (such as the Glock) works to your advantage because it can flex, but this isn't the case with an aluminum alloy frame. Weight, as you mentioned, is also a consideration. Personally I don't mind a couple pounds of steel hanging off my hip all day. I like the heft and added control it provides.
There was a bare Caspian .400 caliber slide on either Gunbroker or Ebay a couple days ago. At the time the price wasn't too bad, but I don't know what it finally went for (if it's already sold). You could probably find the parts pretty cheap, but labor costs are another matter.
I'm haveing a DW PMA-S 10mm "bobbed" this week. I waited too long to get the CBOB...
Just ordered some VZ Grips ( http://www.vzgrips.com/index.html ), and will see if anyone at this weekend's local gun show has bobtail grips.

What about my idea of having the frame swapped for a titanium frame? Caspian says "Ti is softer than steel and will wear over time if left natural and should be coated or carbonized. This will reduce wear and friction dramatically."
I would still use the stock internals (except controls, those be Ed Brown's) and slide. I was only interested in a frame swap, to lighten things up a bit. I got spoiled carrying a G30 and now a 357 snubbie. How would a SS slide wear on a Ti frame?
Seems like its (Ti) hardness is between aluminum and steel, but 5 ounces lighter than comparable sized steel frames (12.2oz for Gov SS vs 7.3oz for Gov Ti, according to my Caspian catalog). I am not a metallurgist, but isn't one of the things that Ti is heraled for being is "as strong as steel but lighter than aluminum"? Shouldn't Ti be able to take the 10mm and beg for more?
Basically all I am looking to do is take a 40cal 1911-commander single stack, bob it, get the safeties and controls swtiched to Ed Brown, and if I can get away with it, use Caspian's titanium commander frame instead of the stock 40cal frame that comes with it (be it Kimber, Colt, or Spanky's Gunworks). If I can't use the Ti frame with the 10mm, I will have to save it for a .45 project maybe.

I don't have any experience with titanium and so can't really give you any advice on that. I've never been that interested in "ultralight" guns and haven't owned anything in titanium or scandium. I would contact Caspian and see what they say.

There are PT-CBOBs now listed on GunsAmerica - in stock and ready to ship by a seller called "Guns4Sale". Just FYI, I don't know anything about him and have no interest other than letting the 10mm Brotherhood know that they're available. (BTW - $1000)

According to the picture, those are the old Patriot series. I'm not sure what all the differences are but I do know that they had an external extractor.
I bet he just used an old picture. He does mention that they are "starting to ship"
By the time I pay shipping and FFL fees, the price is just about what my local deal is selling them for.
Oh yeah, I wonder why he says he is going to be the first dealer to get them. Kinda strange.

I bought a PMA-S in 10mm from Kenny. He's had a strong relationship with DW/CZ for a while.

Nordik, I have a Para P-16 towards the top of my "short list" (guns that I want to buy the most). I can't find anyone around here that has one, I THINK I would like the feel of them but not sure... I have been hoping to find one already converted, but haven't found any worth it yet.
What all is required to convert one? Who do you recommend to do the 'smith work?
I am trying to keep enough cash in reserve to pick up a Bren SFL if one comes up, but still buy nice 10's as they come up. My safe is very heavily balanced towards the 10mm. I keep hoping that you'll sell me your 1046 sometime so I can complete my S&W 10mm semi-auto collection... I'd make it worth your while should you ever decide to.

Good idea. Mention you heard about them on GlockTalk The 10 Ring, might as well drop my name as well. Heck, if he sells some pistols on GT, maybe we can convince him to advertise here!!
