Hi, Im a first time poster here and wanted to solicit some advice for replacing my pistol that was stolen.
I had a colt .45 Government Issue Mark IV that was stolen from my house while I was at work. The insurance said they would replace it for current value, do any of you have ball park figures I could give them. It was given as a gift and I figure it was worth between $500 & $600.
I am looking at replacing it with a Glock 22 (considering applying for the FBI in a year so I figured I should begin training with their service pistol) or possibly a HK USP .40.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me.
I would go find a gunshop that could give you a replacement estimate in writing and then take it to your insurance agent.
I did that once and it worked out good. Or you can see what they run on GunsAmerica.com and some other sites on the internet and go from there.
Dude...sorry to hear about your loss. Hopefully you had the serial numbers and gave it to the Cops. Right now thats about all you can do. Colts are no cheap date. Right now on GunsAmerica you would be hard pressed to find a colt 1911 for very much under 700 bucks.
If you did not have your pistol in a gun locker or safe that was mounted to the house you may consider purchasing one before you get another pistol. STACK-ON makes a great selection safes that can me mounted to a wall. Some of these are small enough to be mounted to a wall right behind furniture so your safe is not only anchored it is also concealed.
If your pistol was stolen out of a secured safe or locker then you should rest assured there was not much more that your could have done to protect your property. I have seen many handgun thefts in which the pistol was just hidden in a locked residence or vehicle, but only very, very few thieves take time to try and break into lockers or safes. They just don't unusually have the time or the tools.
As for buying a Glock pistol keep in mind you are on GLOCK TALK. We pretty much love Glocks here.....rightfully so but we are still a bit biased. The Glock 22 is a good pistol I would imagine the FBI will be staying with it for quite some time. You would not go wrong with either the 22 or the 23. 40 cal ammo is becoming more and more common. It is cheaper than 357 Sig. So IMHO you could not go too wrong getting a Glock 22 or 23.
As for the H+K I do not care for them but we do have a H+K forum you might want to look into.
man i bolted down my 320 doller sentury safe in my office closet.threw the floor left and right walls and rear wall.a bit of floor molding for finished look .it aint going no ware!it will sell with the house should we ever move.
Holy crap!!!! Spober you are one responcible citizen!!! Kudos!!! Wish all gun owners were that carefull. If everyone was as thorough as you thugs would have a real hard time getting our guns . Then all we would have to worry about is the scumbag liberals trying to get them.
