View Full Version : Paint for a handgun
Here's one I will be interested if anybody knows...where is a good place to buy paint for a handgun. What type of paint do I need to use? I have all the other things for the finishing(due to where I work) just need to know the type and place to buy the paint. Thanks

You'll probably want to check out Brownell's bake-on stuff.
They have plain old spray-and-bake in several colors and there is also several types of Teflon finishes available through them...
Here's the link. (http://www.brownells.com/)
From what I hear it that's it more trouble and time than it's worth to refinish guns?????? I still may give it a try, I am really just looking to do a slide on a black sw9m. Thanks for the link
I took a day off from work and refinished a Remington 1100 in Brownell's Gun Kote before my wife got home from work. Looks like a pro job (my first attempt) and is way better than the OD green finish Remington is currently putting on some express models. The only thing that would have been hard for me was if I didn't already have a sandblaster and air compressor (and know something about disassembling and reassembling shotguns, although that was also my first time working on an 1100).
For me to do the same to a 1911 would be REALLY easy. Then the hard part would be dealing with the sights, if you had to remove and replace a stake-on front sight.

Okay, that changes things a little.
To do a slide, which receives so much holster wear, you'd be better off getting it plated with black chrome or something.
OTOH, since you'd already have the bake-on kit you could always refinish it when it becomes unsightly again.
The Brownell's Teflon finishes are said to be about the most durable ones going.
Good luck!
if you are intersted in coloring your glock please check out this website and also know that there new products coming out that we can color the frame with.
look under gun gallery for different coatings

Hands down the coolest custom finish ARs I have seen are the Duracoat finished ones from Lauer Custom Weaponry. I have seen a couple of pistols done up too-
Lauer Duracoat (http://www.lauerweaponry.com/duracoatcolors.cfm?colortype=stock&Category=220)
They have kits that include all items needed- prep, hardners, thinners and airbrush if needed.
Some interesting Camo (http://www.lauerweaponry.com/item-detail-colorchoice.cfm?colorchoice=CPR2.jpg&colortype=pattern) kits if you want that urban gansta look.
Exotic colors too if you were thinking "Electric Lime" (http://www.lauerweaponry.com/item-detail-colorchoice.cfm?colorchoice=dcr_61.jpg&colortype=electric) would help you find your SW in the dark.
