View Full Version : winchester model 70
I just bought a win model 70 coyote in the 243 wssm. Is the trigger adjustable cause it is so heavy to pull? I dont have a scale but guessing around 8 pounds to pull. Thanks for the help.
Most of the Winnie bolt guns I've seen are usually in the 5-6 lb. range.
On a good note, there is an adjustable spring on the trigger and a good Flitzing can really smooth things up.
My M70 had a 2.8# break and it began life at over 6.
It was totally drop safe with the safety off, too, so this can be done safely.
IF you know what you are doing and don't go too far.
Good luck!
I have the Fritz so how do I know when enough is enough. Also which spring do I adjust.

I had my smith tune the trigger on my Model 70 down to a "glass rod snap" of 3 lbs for $40. Worth every penny.
;N
DJ, I was crazy enough to try it on my own, but I have done probably 50 actions on the different guns I have owned...so I had that experience to draw from.
I suspect you'd be better off following GlockDude's advice--see, that way, not only will you ensure your rifle will not get ruined, but you also have someone local to help if it is still too heavy or to blame if it becomes unsafe with wear.
Best regards,
Eric
