View Full Version : Sexiest 1911?
What is the best looking 1911, in your opinion?
My vote goes to springer's champion.
http://www.springfield-armory.com/images/pistols/PX9149LLarge.jpg
For a production gun my vote goes to the Les Baer Thunder Ranch, in either blue or hard chrome. They are both great looking guns. Unfortunatly, I have never owned one. :( The black over gray Wilson CQB is also a beauty.

I vote for the Colt Commander.
http://www.geminicustoms.com/Gallery/Series%2070%20Colt%20Commander%20w-Desert%20Cammo4w-knife.JPG
I prefer a mix of old school and new school. I like no front slide serrations and a single sided safety. However, I like Novak sights, magwells, beavertails, and serrations on the top of the slide.
I don't like GI hammers, grip safeties, or thumb safeties. Then again, I don't like bobtails or rails either. I will say that I like the full length rail of the TRP Operator, but the little half rails look awful. I've got a light on my Glock and HK, don't need one messing up the lines of my 1911's. Of course, options are a good thing, and lots of people like 'em.
I gotta go with a 5 inch Ed Brown, any finish is fine, and none of that fishscale stuff either.
to me, this is my sexiest 1911 in the stable:

I agree. The only one that may out-do this one is the longslide Damascus slide they have in their catalog. If I ever have enough money to get one, I would get a Damascus slide from Caspian before I ever get a super house 1911 from Ed Brown, Nowlin, Baer, or Nighthawk. Longslide Damascus Caspian in 10mm. Too sweet to pass up.;f That is my dream gun.

Officer, commander, and government length are all $550 slide only. Longslide is $650 slide only. Made to order, takes about 6 months.
Money well spent. I could definately do that. I'd put it on a Ti frame. I wish I had the money! Oh, well. I will just have to wait until I get out of school and save up. I would rather have that than a newer motorcycle. I can ride the one I have (sig line) til it dies!
I am already running out of stuff to sell to get a "10mm Fund" started.
Maybe not the sexiest, in a cool sense, but if I ever stumbled upon an old WW2 bringback 1911 at some old lady's garage sale. Say, marked "$25 obo"...
As I paid, my heart would be in my throat just the same as if I was getting ready to test out a line of new sex lubes with the entire Swedish Bikini team. ;P ;P ;P
Got some REALLY good looking 1911s posted in this thread.... It's kinda like being in the Playboy mansion having to make a decision.

I use a VM2 for it, but the finish doesn't seem to wear much. Granted, I don't carry it daily, but it gets a fair amount of holster time. It is my primary CCW when I am not at work.
And as Obi-Wan would say, "not clumsy or as radom as a blaster, an elegant weapon for a more civilized time."

I'm having bobtail conniptions. The bobtail does look like a great idea for a carry gun, but dang I just don't want to buy one and find out that it doesn't work for me or that it just points too much differently than a standard frame with a flat MSH. Been trying to hook up with someone local that has one to swap guns with at the range, but no luck.
Any comparisons from you guys would be most appreciated.
I am not a 1911 guy, YET :)
But i am looking at one of these.

I have this love hate relationship with 1911s... I can't shoot them well, I don't like the safeties and grip angle, but I just can't seem to stop buying them, or drooling over them... It's a sickness.

The "retro" look seems to be the flavor of the month. I guess, when it comes down to it, the Colt 1911, as designed by Mr.Browning is still the best design.

I LOVE THE GRIPS!! The only other grips that I have tried are the tan ones that came with it. These are the same G10 material except the ones on it now are a bit rougher, which i like better because it gives a better grip... and i like the way they look better. If you look at my thread "Well it is about time" in this forum there is a closer shot of the grips.

Walter have you ever shot one of those LDAs? I've tried one, but wasn't taken by it. Not that it was a bad gun it's just that to me a nice crisp single action trigger is one of the big attractions of 1911s.

Dad's sidearm from Korea. Shipped it back home one peice at a time. Of course when he got home he had to take the grips off and replace them with some black marble looking things. The grips pictured are as close to original as I can find for now.
Hey there Ninja, genuine WW2 (Korean War used left over WW2 stuff) GI surplus grip scales are fairly easy to find, but will not look as nice as the real wood you have used. The Gummint switched to brown plastic pretty early in WW2. I got some on my 1991A1 and they actually look pretty decent.

Here's a couple of mine below. Cmbt. Cmndr customized by John Jardine with frontstrap checkering by Yost's shop.

Cmndr with fullsize SA "loaded" lightly customized by Don Williams with matte hardchrome by Tripp.

As far as sexy 1911's go, I prefer ones with Heinie slantpro's, French (I call them Freedom) borders on the slide, Ed Brown or McCormick beavertail and WC manual single sided safety. I tend to like the look of many of the beautiful 1911's turned out by Ted Yost's shop, past Dane Burn's works, and always CT Brians, although I don't like the angled bottom of the slide cuts. Fullsize or Commander length 1911's only. I suppose some Officer length ones look nice also, but don't surpass the longer lengths.

I think my next 1911 will be a Stainless TRP and do a light trigger job. Thats a nice setup!!
Kevin
The trigger on a stock TRP is sweet to begin with. I believe it would be hard to improve on that.

I love the trigger in the stock TRP better than most. I dropped a Cylinder & Slide Tactical 4lb kit in my Black TRP and it made a ton on difference. It made it break like glass with no creep what so ever. My smith could not believe I wanted the stock parts out but after he did the job he said it was well worth it....

Wow, Dhart, this is where you are. I have missed your exceptional photography and your fine gun collection.
Good to see your handle again.
Gorgeous GUNS!!!!!!
I just purchased my first 1911 5 weeks ago - a simple SA GI but the bug bit and now I have a Les Baer Stinger and a Kimber Ultra II. Uh, a friend of mine has an idiot scratch and was wondering if there are any ways to buff it out or otherwise fix it. He promises to never do it again...
I posted the LB but will have to take some pics of the Kimber.
Thanks,
Jack

I guess I'll add one of mine to the mix. Here is one you don't see to often, a STI Range Master. Single Stack 45 ACP, bull barrel, full length dust cover. A great blaster.
