Finish on a muzzle break rubbing off.

Cleaned my Vepr last night. I've been using Shooter's Choice for years. Half-way thru the cleaning I realized that my muzzle brake is now two-tone, half gray, half black. Solvent discolored thebreak. That's a Robinson-made part. Russian parts were not affected by the solvent. What gives?
