Embarking on a mission, need ideas!

This is probably going to be one of the craziest "I want to build..." threads, but I'll try it, see what kind of feedback I can get.

Hk G36 - my long time obsession and project in the making. Yeah, I know people build Sl-8 conversions, but they never look right, and original G36 parts don't fit. So that brings me to my next topic - building your own receiver for the G36 replica. Original receiver is polymer with metal inserts. I am planning on building the entire receiver out of metal.

I have found a few places on line that build 80% receivers, I submitted inquiries as to what they can / can't do.

I am also in the process of trying to get measurements / reverse engineer the receiver. So far without much luck. Plans are not exactly floating around the web.

So, if anyone has any ideas / info on how I can proceed with this, please feel free to contribute. I am open to any ideas.

First, I'd get a full set of parts together, minus the receiver.

Without ever seeing/handling a G36, it will be hard to develop a lower for it.

The best thing you could do is find a G36 lower you can plot on a coordinate measuring machine, grab the exact hole locations in relationship to each other and the major planes. Take that to an engineer/machinist, and have them work up a rough with all the holes/mating planes in the right place, and then do the cosmetic work yourself on a mill to make it match the looks of a G36.

6061 T6 aluminum should be strong enough, especially given you're not doing full auto.
