I've heard "mixed" reviews...
Some say it works, others don't..
What say you?
I also would like to know.. can the weapon be easily fired with the stock folded?

If all you want is something that looks cool so you can post pictures of a tacti-cooled AK, it is fine.
If you want something that works as well as it looks, you're going to have to spend a little more cause the TAPCO is really a P.O.S. I put one on my Romanian and it went Tango Uniform on the very first range outting. It fell maybe two feet to the ground, landed on the stock, and the hinge mechanism came apart with a cartoony "TWANG" that would have almost been funny if I wasn't so pissed. Lesson learned--I can send it in for TAPCO to replace and have another POS on my rifle, or I can save up for something better. My AK now has an ACE folder that I couldn't be happier with, despite the fact it costs 3x as much as the TAPCO.

I would not dare fire a folded folder except from a good sling position, least my life depended on it. The CRAPCO folder does allow for the action to work, but it might fling open on you after a few rounds ..... it is not sturdy but rather a very expensive piece of plastic. Firing it from the shoulder ( stock extended ) feels like a recoiling PVC pipe. Don't waste your money on it. It wants to look like a Galil folder, but that's about it.

Okay.
Dang, looks like the only sidefolder I can go with is the Romy one. I don't mind it, but don't really care for it. The one Romy I bought does fine, but yeah, kind of different to shoot with.
No way I'd spend the $160 for the ACE setup. Neat stuff, but if it's anything like their AR stuff, not worth what they charge for it.

You can always modify the rear end to take either a Russian AK-100 series sidefolder or an underfolding stock, but that will bring you close to putting in the rifle as much as you paid for it ( considering you have it professionally done ). Both are great and very comfortable. I prefer the underfolding stock, nothing like that WWII MP-40 look.

Where's the best source for the Romanian folder and will it work on my Norinco MAK 90 ?

Try DPH Arms (http://www.dpharms.com) $70 plus shipping. He's one of the best small dealers.
You will have to narrow the sides a bit to fit a MAK90 and yes it works. The rifle in Ballistic's picture is an un-Bush-holed MAK. The Chinese receiver is a bit narrower or the inside than the Euro. You will also have to have 6 US made parts to be Bushban ( 922 R ) compliant.

What the hell are you guys doing with those poor things?
I've fired nearly 500 rounds through my Romy AK build without any problems from the Tapco Sidefolder. Not any sign of damage whatsoever.
Sure, it looks like ****, but so does any AK I've ever seen, and I own three of them now (with more of the ugly bastards to come).

Graveman is correct it is a picture of my Norinco MAK90. If you don't have a threaded bbl/muzzle attachment you will need 5 US parts. Here is a folder just like the one in the picture if he still has it, act fast.

I have a Romanian Wire stock, and am not totally happy with it ;g
Might just have to stick with it or the wood stock.
Wow, this is not good news to hear. I have three of the Tapco folders to use on my AK's I am having built. They seems fairly well put together, what types of problems are you guys having with them?

Worst case scenario, you won't like it.
If you expect the solid feel of a solid stock, you won't like it.
If you expect the compromise of a folding stock, you probably won't be disappointed.
Try it. Popular opinion will likely be your only complaint.
