Glock Barrel Fitting???

What does it mean to have a barrel "fitted"?? Do glocks come stock with the barrel "fitted"? If not, is it recommended that it be done? What does it involve? "Fitted" sounds like you cant take it out..lol

Please explain. I shoot a stock G-34 for IDPA.

Stock factory barrels do not require fitting. Match barrels do because they are often made slightly oversized. Fitting requires careful filing for a snug fit, often at the expense of reliability.

+1 for DannyR. My G34 was a Jam-O-Matic with it's EKF 17L ported Match barrel. I "Fitted" (read filed and polished here) it to almost as loose a fit as a stock barrel and now it shoots very reliably.

It's mostly involves fitting the barrel hood to the slide - the length and width of the hood is filed and stoned

Sweeney's book - Gunsmithing Pistols and Revolvers has a section on fitting a aftermarket barrel to a Glock.

I fitted a Wilson barrel to a G 17 so I could shoot lead bullets.

It took a couple of times but it fits tighter than the stock barrel and the groups are noticeably smaller.
It's been as reliable as the stock barrel.
