My Budget AR. Budget 1050 dollars.

Stag Model 2 rifle, 752 dollars
Midwest Industries Drop in Rail, 125 dollars
ERGO grip, 20 dollars
Magpul MOE stock, 56 dollars
Generic VFG, 20 dollars
Magpul Rail covers, 20 dollars

Ignore the cheapo chinese aimpoint clone. Though it does function fairly well and the mount is pretty nice for a 50 dollar optic!

Yes, very much so. In fact, you rifle is in my top three of ALL rifles I've seen here, on m4c and afrcom. Chase45 and sweatpants being the other two.

I've been saving for the FSP version of the RIS.

It was a NICE scope. Dot was daytime bright, and the glass was pretty nice; I'd say on par with my ACOG TA31ECOS-G; but I sold the Leupold two days ago to get another Trijicon AccuPoint though.

The ONLY reason I sold the Leupold was because I don't like optics that are dependent on batteries, but still want illumination capabilities. I'd rate the glass of the Leupold to be right on par with my ACOG and AccuPoints.

As a matter of fact, I believe the new VX-R line will give the AccuPoint a run for its money; glass is just as clear (to me), and you still get some decent reticles, with daytime visible brightness.....and its a LOT cheaper.

Pic Thread:

Added my new AccuPoint TR20-2G 3-9x40 yesterday. The TR24G should be here tomorrow.

About the rifle on top, with the red dot being mounted that far forward to allow for the magnifier, does that kind of set up have any disadvantages? I ask because I think I'll need to move my red dot forward on the rail in order to mount the magnifier on a swivel I just ordered.

some are simply shaving down a carbine or middy fsp and then using a clamp on style fsp to hold the handguard.

Good eye. It's a complete M4V3.

I like it very much; only thing I saw fit to change was to get rid of the A2 style grip. It shoots very well. No complaints.

Thanks! It's actually water transfer for the camo. Sharkbite Custom did it for me.

Haven't done any accuracy testing. The Aimpoint is just holding the place for the eventual Short Dot. Then I'll be able to stretch its legs and see what the Lilja can do. I have shot it a few times and hitting small steel plates at 50 and 100 yards was easy. I'm sure the rifle will be better than I can make it perform.

Thanks,

I did make the long trip down to Rainier Arms first and wasn't overly enthused with their sales staff. I had $2K in my pocket for one of their Noveske's on the wall but their sales guy had better things to do than be bothered by me I guess. I left somewhat disgusted, went home and started ordering parts.
To be fair their online service, and shipping time was great for the rail.

Well I'll post this one as it's kind of done, less some duracoat. This is an entry level rifle for my 19yr daughter and she wants the XTM panels black, white and pink, along with the stock pink.

This was a build on the cheap with a lot of "take off's" from other guns and the like. Started out with an old Olympic stop sign lower I've been using for a dozen years or so, RRA parts kit, Spike's stock/buffer assy and a very affordable PSA mid length complete upper ($429 I think). Troy drop in rail, AFG donated from her boyfriends gun, borrowed Aimpoint and mount from my (now) backup rifle. Runs like a clock and more than accurate enough from what we can tell. Only shoot out to a hundred yards and maybe 150rnds total thru it, but so far flawless.

If I would have know that PSA was coming out with the patrol carbine including the Aimpoint Pro I would have just bought that! But I'm happy with this one too.

I just did my first AR. I didn't really know what i was doing so i started with a complete stag-15 model 2. and added the parts and optic i wanted. I'll post pictures tomorrow when my omega rail gets here and it's 99.5% done. It'll jsut be pending the arrival of my magpul extended trigger guard. I've only put 120 through it so far to zero the irns and make sure it didn't explode. I'll have it out next week for a 500 round session. So far, accurate and no hiccups wiht federal XM 193. I'll try a few boxes of wolf or bear in it next week in addition to the federal. But i'm pleased with the stag quality considering the price of the complete rifle new was 752 dolars before tax.

And now i have a little bit of know how for the next build i do. I'll probably get a BCM upper for that one. And whatever decent lower i can get at a good rate...

How do you like that Rainier mini comp? I was looking at getting one to put on my plinking rifle because it is so small but the points were a turn off so I got a Miculek instead.

Just got it installed, like it for the small size, especially since I put it on a .625" diameter barrel. Everything else looks HUGE on it............you could always grind the point off

just installed a YHM free float rifle length tube on my standard Stag carbine. shaved the fsb down with a dremel and painted to match the rest of the rifle. im really not liking the grip pod and it has since come off. need to figure something else out. also need to touch up the paint on the scope because i had to move it a bit. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic.

do some of you realize the magpul afg is meant to be used out on the end of a longer rail? on a carbine you'd be better served with a straight up magwell grip.

To some, whatever the position they put the grip is where they're most comfortable with. One size does not fit all.

Depends. I run one at the end of a 14.5" patrol gun. With the stock extended all the way (I'm 6'3"/235) its just right. For my wife (who shoots the black and tan 6721) its just right on a carbine with the stock collapsed. I have one on my 7.5" upper as well. I've been unable to shoot that (or mount it for that matter since its locked up at work until the stamp arrives) but it will be more of a handstop than anything for that little gun.

We are running basically the same setup but yours appears to be lighter weight.

I'd like to run 'em side by side and with a very elevated heart and respiratory rate under induced stress.

A lightweight is sure nice to carry but I think that a little extra weight helps out when I'm sucking wind trying to make a 200yd shot... Or maybe I'm just making excuses for my portly rifle:supergrin:...

If I'm shooting at 200-400yds I'm going prone or kneeling where I can lock this lil lightweight down. For me running a lot of classes I like it as light as possible. When you factor 8lbs of armor and another 2 lbs on the belt I try and shave as much as possible from the rifle. This Noveske is a laser, so longer range hits are a non issue. If I wasn't lugging it for 8+ hours and just gaming it, weight wouldn't matter much and I would run my LaRue Stealth or LMT MRP

Here are my AR's

I think I am done with the SBR, I just added the H1 and took it out to the range. It is really loud and is a flame thrower.
I like the red dot, this is my first optic and I think I made a great choice.

Spikes lower, DD LPK, CTR, MIAD, DD H buffer and tube, DD mk18 10.3" upper, Rainer arms RMC flash hider, Troy sights, BCM gun fighter CH, LaRue sling, H1 on a LaRue mount.

Stag m8. I love blasting the gong targets at the range with this. It has performed flawlessly.

Charles Daly lower, Geiselle stage 2 and a WOA upper.
This is my CMP rifle

How are you liking the balance of the MOE with the dissipator? I am thinking either a CTR or ACS would offer a more balanced setup with my PSA dissy. What is your opinion?

With my set-up, you definately know there's a barrel out there. If I find it to be a problem, I may switch stocks. I may even try the BCM's A2 stock to see if it makes a difference.

Troy's new Alpha rail is basically the TRX Extreme that uses the stock barrel nut. Meaning after Adco shaves my fsb and cuts my delta ring I can install it without removing the barrel nut.

What ColdBlooded said.

ColdBlooded,
I cut my delta ring and shaved my front sight post down with a dremel. Took me about 2 hrs, taking my time. I cut the retaining ring, behind the FSB, with a dremel too, after I un-pinned my FSB and moved it forward a bit. First time I had ever done any of those thing to an AR.

Nice! :wow:

Thank you! I like it, like it a lot. A very well made rifle that gives you a lot of flexibility for different calibers and barrel lengths....

With its proper glass in a BoBro mount.

I'd love a good .308 AR with a .260 upper to go with my bolt gun.

.260 and 6.5 are both barrel options with the LMT MWS... I am going to add a 6.5 not sure about .260 though.
