I'm not AI, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I also carry a 7.5" AR for a living. As long as it isn't a piece of trash and is assembled correctly with quality components and matched with decent ammo, you should have no issues.

Here is my Noveske Diplomat/DDM4 patrol SBR...

Airborne Infantryman (http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/member.php?u=132302),

Why did you choose the Sig 516 7.5" PDW for your SBR? I'm interested because I am building my own SBR and have heard of gas issues with barrels less than 11.5". I don't know how true that is. I'm just seeking information and want to know your reasoning. Would adding a can make a difference or change your choice?

Stay on target,
Geld6

Pretty much what Cochese said.

As long as its a quality, known manufacturer, you'll have no issues. I put only 5.56 pressure ammo through my rifles anyway, but .223 could cause some cycling issues due to the lower operating pressure.

I went with a 7.5" because I had an 11.5", and I was really disappointed that the overall length was 2 1/2 inches shorter than my 14.7" pinned AR.........so I went as small as I could go.

For a PDW's intended purpose, the 7.5" will do. Its HIGHLY concealable, and at its intended ranges of 0-50 meters (maybe even as far as 100m), it offers a high capacity rifle capable of defeating soft armor.

You can't go wrong with a Noveske Diplomat upper, or a Sig 516 PDW upper.

I do appreciate the fact that my piston Sig offers me a suppressed setting for when I get my suppressor, however, Noveske's can be had with a Switchblock that does the same thing as the gas regulator on my Sig 516 or my LWRC REPR.

Another PSA build, went all old-school bare bones with this one. All PSA gear, with the exception of the Mega lower, and a Bravo Co. BCG in this one. Really digging the classic carry-handle look.

Left to right;

1) The one I just finished.

2) BCM middy, MOE gear, YHM BUIS, currently wearing a Strikefire I'm trying out.

3) PSA KISS carbine, all PSA gear, MOE stock, DD fixed rear sight.

In case you hadn't noticed, lol, I don't like piling a bunch of crap on my rifles.

I just finished another rifle just like this except the only non-PSA item is the BCM bolt carrier group.

I am going to cut the barrel down to 12 in. and I'm looking for one of those old school mounts for a red dot that puts it forward of the carry handle sight.

Sweet, look forward to seeing that.

It's true what they say, ARs are Barbies for men, lol. And while it's great that there's so much available to us, to personalize & set up these rifles to our exact tastes, it's all to easy to just keep adding doo-dads and gadgets.

While lugging around that super cool looking boat anchor, it's easy to forget how light, manageable & effective the platform is in it's basic trim.

Agreed. It's my first AR and I've wanted one all my life. I've been into pistols and skeet/upland birds for 30 years or so, so I'm not a firearm noob. I bought the Colt to learn everything I can about these rifles and maybe put one together myself someday. I'll post pics next week (it's being delivered Tuesday).

Very smart way to go for your first jump into ARs. Start with a basic, but high quality rifle. Learn the platform, and go from there.

depend on the body diameter of the light...most are 1 inch.

Just watch out if you use the Streamlights as the "clicky" switch is poor for light discipline. I didn't realize this until I used my carbine in a class with a dark house, works good searching but if you are pressing on the switch and letting rounds fly it's pretty easy to click it on and have to click it back off.

I actually have my RSA's on the top pointed left. I prefer it that way. You can run them however you want so don't let the lack of side rails deter you from running them. They're solid mounts and I really like them. I'm tired of running QD rings for slings.

It is solid to be sure but the main issue is I can't get it as far forward as I want because the light and front sight occupy that territory. I'm not tired of QD rings yet so eff it imma do it live.

Single point tends to cup check you with each stride when on a full run. :crying:

Hence running it in two point on the move. Or I stage it behind my radio on the right side if in single point and I have to move NOW.

That came out looking great Plank! I'm digging the grey on black.

Thanks. I still need to do some touch-up around the dustcover, though. Too many sharp lines from where I had to cover the SBR engraving, and too big of a grey patch on the upper and rail system. Nothing a few minutes with a paper towel and some nail polish remover won't fix, though.

Boredom + Rattle cans + painters tape results in...

http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/7462/tigerstripe1.jpg

Every time I see someone's paint job come out that good, I get about 90% convinced to grab my rifle and head out to the garage. Then I remember that I have zero painting talent at all, and it would indubitably look terrible.

Good job!

It was dirt easy. For tiger stripe like that, you just need a roll of 2" painter's tape from Wal-Mart, and spray paint in the color of your choice. I think Hour13 was the one that recently posted photos of how they did the same process. I didn't take in-progress photos, unfortunately.

Cover any surfaces you don't want painted (I'd suggest BUIS, optic - or remove it, grips, safety, and main markings). You can then tear down the edges of strips of tape for rougher edges, or tear up narrow strips, depending on how wide you want the stripes to be. Cover the areas you want to remain their current color with tape, and LIGHTLY hit the remaining areas with the spray paint. Going light makes it dry faster, and makes it easier to remove later if you hate it.

Touching up spots that you got paint on by accident is easy with some nail polish remover and a q-tip. You can use it for roughing up edges that came out too straight, too.

Wow plank that does look good, I bought all the stuff to urban camo one of mine including the urban tiger stripe template but just never got the guts to do it. I've done a lot of solid color duracoat, including fluorescent pink but i need to man up and just do it.

Well, I'm sitting here bored, staring at this as of yet still pretty and new AR leaning up in the corner... Nuts to this!

Pulled the trigger group, CH, sight & butt-pad. Started tearing up masking tape.
http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn269/hour13/gun%20stuff/AR15s/100_5169.jpg

Hit it with a moderate coat of flat olive green, then a few blotches of charcoal black for good measure.
http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn269/hour13/gun%20stuff/AR15s/100_5172.jpg

Reassemble, and...

Tah-dah!
http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn269/hour13/gun%20stuff/AR15s/100_5180.jpg

Lol, not exactly a super-cool Duracoat job, but I'm kinda digging it.
http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn269/hour13/gun%20stuff/AR15s/100_5177.jpg

When it's completely cured, I'll hit it lightly with a scotch-pad, to knock the sheen down a bit more & to soften the edges.

Start to finish in under an hour, and I already had the paint & tape. So it didn't cost me squat.

I disagree but I do like the Troys and have them on a couple of my others.

The rifle in the pic is the rifle I use in classes. It sees the most use of any of my ARs. Lets put it this way, if I was called back right now and given the choice this would be my primary weapon system. Exactly how it sits. Well, plus the low/no light gear I'd need to throw on it.

This is my LMT 14.5". I bought the upper and lower separately and then put the two together after I installed the gas block and rail. Again, it is an LMT 14.5" upper w/ an LMT bolt/bolt carrier and a VLTOR VC-1 flash suppressor. I took off the FSB and added a low-profile VLTOR gas block and installed a Daniel Defense RIS II MK18 9.55". The lower is the LMT Defender lower with an LMT 2-stage trigger and the LMT gen2 sopmod. The two optics I have for this particular rifle are the trijicon acog TA31RCO-M4 and an EOTech xps2-0 for the indoor range. Back ups are the Troy folding BUIS set with tritium.

My current line-up...

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn269/hour13/100_5374.jpg

Left to right;

My baby, BCM middy, Magpul MOE gear, M-512, Streamlight, YHM flip-up.

Beater/trunk-gun, PSA carbine, MOE stuff, DD fixed sight.

Just cuz, PSA bare bones old-school carbine. Just the basics, carry handle sight.

Not sure why, lol. RRA middy, free-float, Magpul gear & flip-ups(yuck), cheesy Blackhawk light, Strikefire up top(I actually like these, flame away! :tongueout:).

Lol, not quite. I didn't build this one, took it in as part of the payment for a Mustang I just sold.

This RRA will see some definite changes soon.

@Mjkeat ~ While I do love Magpul's gear in general(lol, obviously), two reasons;

1) Not a huge fan of plastic sights. Magpul's ARE very well made, but I can be quite rough on my ARs. Having snapped the top half of an MBUS off once before(in the "up" position), I don't use them on my builds. Fixed A2 in the front, DD or YHM usually out back.

2) I don't like flip-up front sights, period. For my own use, I see no reason for them. I shoot off of irons only, or with a red-dot co-witnessed off the front sight. So for me, there's never a time when there shouldn't be a front sight sticking up out there.

Even on the odd occasion that I put an actual scope on top, the front sight isn't an issue, as it vanishes when looking through the glass.

Lol, ya, this gun does not have an easy life at all!

Gotta give PSA props. Their shipping sucks, they screw up orders here and there...

But for the money, you'd be hard pressed to find tougher gear.

BCM still gets the nod in my book for highest quality per dollar spent(not to mention top-notch CS, and lightning-fast shipping), but PSA certainly allows you to build a tough-ass AR on a budget.

DSA lower with Ergo
Spikes complete upper, receiver ext, LPK, NiB BCG
10.2 Noveske SS barrel in 300BLK flavor, pistol gas system
MI FF rail
Troy fixed sights
Magpul ASAP and AFG

I'm waiting on my trust paperwork right now so I can hurry up and wait six months... I'll probably go with a CTR or something lightweight when I get the stamp back to SBR it. Then I'd like to get a suppressor, so the A2 is just a place holder for now. Maybe a T-1... Always something.

The 300 is a pretty cool little round. I'm just starting to mess around with it and I think it has a lot of potential on both ends of the sound barrier. I think I may get a 16" barrel for one of my other uppers too, it'll be interesting to see the performance difference.

The mounting method of the Ergo is standard carbine setup.

Few subtle differences, polymer on the Magpul has a better "feel" to it, the Ergo has a bit of a "plastic" feel to it.

Over all I like the Magpul better and yes, this became the UBR.

I dig the 20"! I just put one together myself, and while I really don't need an offset MRD and light, I'll probably end up with them anyway. Specs on it?

That's probably not the final setup, but so far I like it... I try to keep some consistency between rifles, so I went ahead and put a light on it (it's a quick-detach, so I can pull it off easily).

The upper is a Palmetto State Armory 20" with a 15" VTAC handguard. Bipod is a Blackhawk (I wasn't sure if I'd like a bipod or not, so I got a cheap one... luckily it works great!) and it has (I think) Ergo ladder rail covers. The ACOG is a TA31F with a red chevron, and the MRD is a Burris Fastfire III on a 45 degree mount. The light is a Primary Arms "Ultimate Weapon Light" (I usually won't buy anything with the word "Ultimate" in the name, but I trust PA :tongueout:), and the sling is a VTAC with a Magpul RSA on the front/QD on the stock.

The lower receiver is a PSA as well, assembled by yours truly, with an ALG QMS trigger, Ergo palm shelf grip, Magpul trigger guard (I wear gloves a lot), and a SOPMOD stock.

The SOPMOD stock came off of the LMT lower on the top rifle in the second pic. I already had a spare MOE stock, so I put it on the LMT for consistency between the two M4geries.

It performed FLAWLESSLY (a shock since I put it together!) yesterday. Once I got the ACOG dialed in I took it to the 250yd line and started ringing 12" gongs over and over... may not sound like much, but I don't think I've ever shot at anything over 200yds :rofl:Now the long range bug has bitten me. I need a 7.62 now...

I'm very please with it, especially how well it worked out being a cheap upper, cheap lower, using cheap ammo (Fed XM193), with a lousy shot operating it :embarassed:

I was so tired and running short on time by the time I got it to the tactical bay that I didn't even work on transitioning between the ACOG and MRD. Honestly, the only complaint that I have is the trigger... it would be much better on a combat rifle, not something I'm trying to shoot precisely. I'll most likely swap it out with the stock milspec trigger in my 14.7" PSA build.

The first picture is how I had it originally set up. Now, having decided to go in another direction, I pulled some of the items off to save them for another build, and sell the rifle.

After I did this, my brother said he wanted to buy the stripped rifle. So for his birthday, I installed some goodies on the rifle for him, which you can see in the second pic. It should be a fun plinker for him.

Sort of, lol. Pirated a few bits off the Beater AR to put it together. Got the upper yesterday, and couldn't wait to see it assembled. Time to order a CH and rear sight!

1st AR but have sort of wanted one for a long time. Couldn't make my mind up between an AK or AR. Three days ago I made the fatal mistake of dropping by a local gun store to just "chat."

Pretty naked for the moment, but a boat load of stuff has been ordered for it.

One of the boats arrived and it's starting to morph.

It's a CMMG M4 LE. Yeah I know the front sight could be in a precarious situation. Now that I have a rail I'm going to move it back before I go to the range.
