What hydration pack/chest rig is that?

The rig posted in the pic above is the 03 MSF Chest Harness ('03 Modular Split Front Chest Harness).

It will be coming out very soon from www.bravocompanyusa.com and www.bravocompanymfg.com

A review of the chest harness will be posted in the next couple weeks in this section of this website (black rifles).

Info on the 03 MSF is at: www.bravocompanymfg.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=24 and is up on the Bravo Company USA website ( www.bravocompanyusa.com ) (left side of the page, just "Tactical Gear").

Hope this helps

Not bad at all, the UBR is heavier than the EMOD I had but it's a rock solid stock. It will be prfect once my rail goes on with the AP and X300.

It is actually the KAC M4 RAS. It comes with the VFG too. You can find them on AR15.COM in the Equipment Exchange under Used AR-15 parts for a fraction of what they are new. I have paid anywhere from $160 to $240 for them.

Can you tell me about the A2, I reall want an A2 with fixed carry handle for my next rifle.

It was a really simple assembly. I ordered a Model 1 Sales 20" A2 Gov't profile complete upper and A2 buttstock. I built the lower receiver using an Essential Arms stripped lower and LPK. Everything fit together beautifully. Functionally, it performed very well. The whole package cost me about $700.

How's the UBR working out?

USMC03

I've been running UBR's on different guns for over a year and a half. Awesome stock if it's on the right gun.

NeverMore1701
10-28-2009, 16:31
The UBR is one that I've wanted to try for a while, but haven't had the chance too. I get the impression that it would be best on maybe a 16"? Looks a bit heavy for a light 14.5" or shorter build.

USMC03
10-28-2009, 17:47
Repost of info I had written on another thread:

What stock you use on what gun really comes down to personal preference and personal preference differs from person to person and is not something that can be easliy explained or decided over the internet.

**********************************************************************

Something I have learned about AR's over the years is, it's a game of matching the right part with the right gun. You may try a stock on a 10.5" SBR and hate it, and then try the same stock on a 16" mid-length carbine and think it's the best stock on the market.

Here is something I wrote in another thread in reference to my personal preferences on different stocks:

**********************************************************************

There are some accessories that I like across the board on all AR's, there are other accessories that I may like on a 11.5" SBR but not like on a 16" Mid-Length or a 20" rifle.

Stocks can

1) help balance out a rifle

2) or if the stock too big or heavy can dominate the gun

3) and if it's too small or too light can make the gun feel muzzle heavy

After trying several different configurations over the year, at the current time I have found that I like Magpul CTR's on SBR's and some 14.5" M4's but I don't like Mapgul CTR's on 16" barreled mid-lengths or 14.5" guns with longer rail systems (9.0 - 13.2). The Magpul CTR is a light weight stock and doesn't balance out a front heavy carbine well.

SOPMODs (for me) balance perfectly on a 14.5" M4 with a 7.0 rail, but can also balance most SBR's and mid-lengths out fairly well. I'm running a SOPMOD on a LaRue Stealth 12" with 10.0 rail and for me it's a perfect balance.

Vltor EMods and Magpul UBRs balance out 16" Mid-Lenghts and most 18" gun with rifle length gas tubes quite well.

As a general rule I run:

-Magpul CTR's on SBR's (short barreled rifle) and some 14.5" M4's (with carbine length rail system)

-SOPMODs on 14.5" M4's and some SBR's with longer rails

-Vltor EMods and Magpul UBR's only on 16" mid-lengths. The EMod also balances well on 14.5" with longer rails (10.0 - 12.0)

-Magpul UBR's on 14.5" - 16" barrels with longer rail systems (10.0 - 13.2) (example shown below of a UBR on a Noveske with a 14.5" barrel and a 11.0 rail system)

I also recently had the chance to try a Magpul UBR on a 20" rifle and the UBR balanced out the rifle extreemly well.

I recently put a Magpul CTR on a BCM 16" Mid-Length w/ LaRue 9.0 rail, Surefire x300, and Aimpoint T1 Micro. The gun balances well for *me*. I had tried a Magpul CTR on this gun in the past and it didn't feel right to me. I don't know what changed but tried it again recently and it feels good. Sometimes our personal preferences change over time.

By changing one item on this gun it can drastically change how the gun feels. Replace the x300 light for a Surefire 961 and the CTR is no longer a good fit for this gun, but a UBR and EMOD will balance the gun out nicely. Change out the T1 for a ACOG TA11 or Leupold MR/T 1.5-5x in LaRue SPR-E, again the CTR is too light on this gun and doesn't feel right, replace the CTR for a UBR and EMOD will balance the gun out nicely.

Many times you can chage out one accessory (light, optic, stock, etc) and it can drastically change how the gun feels. Sometimes better, sometimes worse.

The ultimate goal is to select accessories that complement each other so you end up with a well balanced carbine that doesn't feel like a boat anchor.

Hope this helps

Coming from you that's pretty high praise. My BB 8900 doesn't do too bad really. It's a 3.2mp AF so I find myself reaching for the Canon less and less since the pictures are adequate. I would love to have your work someday on some of my firearms or me doing tactical barrel rolls while shooting them.

Thank you for your compliments.

I really like the EMOD, I basically got it as a cheaper alternative to the SOPMOD. When I bought the stock the ACS was relatively new and was pretty difficult to find one locally (before we carried them).

Thank you for your input, I will probably use an ACS on my next build.

No problem, you have much more experience than I with carbines, just trying to give my $0.02 cents on what has worked for me. The ACS in weight is in between the CTR and the EMOD so it still balances well, but it's smooth on the cheek weld (no hairs getting caught) and it feels more solid, has a friction lock like the CTR's. And it doesn't look like the battery compartment was an after thought.

I will try and get some better pics soon, only had a min to snap these. Only add ons were a Magpul MOE trigger guard, Carry Handle (soon to be replaced by nice LMT one), Blue Force Gear 3.25 wire loop and Victory 2pt sling, last but not least the Hogue Grip. Only thing left is a nice carry handle scope, and I might put a railed forend on someday, but for now the BFG wire loop setup works great. Also seriously considering buying an A2 upper and using the flattop for a Carbine.

I'd also like to know, my .22 is screaming for a very small and light red dot, and a $600 Aimpoint just ain't happenin'. The Burris FastFire II was my other thought, but it's at least twice the price of the PA mini, and doesn't look as sturdy.

This rifle shoots great!!!

Specs:
20" barrel 1:8 twist
heat sink under hand guard
adjustable gas block with rail
free float hand guard
JP Modular drop in trigger set to 3.5 lbs
ergo grip
magpul prs stock

plans for a nightforce scope

I plan to buy a BUIS set so I can shoot high power and a removable scope mount.

With the weight, compensation, and the adjustable gas system it seems to have half the felt recoil of a 16" carry handle AR with stock flash suppressor

Oh and BTW, don't stand to the sides of the muzzle... lol, that comp thumps pretty hard.

You know I don't recall. I think I may have ordered it from Midway, but I meant to get the 4 rail fore end. I must've clicked the wrong item. I was gonna send it back, but decided to keep it....for now. Maybe I sell it later on.

Fair question... I'm the inventor of the Hammerhead and the CEO of the company that makes these. So I use what we produce. It's also a show of solidarity with my CA brothers in arms, I did live in San Diego CA for the last couple years and got a first hand experience of the socialist boot stamping on my face.

Besides that, I just prefer the feel of the Hammerhead equipped rifle to that of the pistol gripped rifle. I'm a very tall guy and the ability to hold my head more upright is a huge bonus for me, no more neck pain trying to hunch over the weapon. For guys who like to shoot the larger calibers they really soak up the recoil (Solid aluminum product has a mass of 400g).

We have started selling these into the free states as well. Not just for restricted states. The U.S. military has also taken an interest...

Finally took the plunge and installed an MI free float rail on my Stag M4.

The front sight was replaced with a YHM hooded flip up. The current optic is a Millett DMS-1 on a LaRue mount. BUIS is Troy.

The optic was originally on my RRA mid-length, but has been replaced with an ACOG. The Millet and mount was pretty hefty on the middy, but balances well on the M4. Can't wait to take it out this spring.

I like the look of that grip on your mag well, I may need to consider getting one.

The only thing to consider with that grip is breaking down the rifle. With some rails, you can't undo he rear, break open, undo front. You have to undo both, then lift the upper off the lower.

Yeah I thought about that when I saw the pic too and wondered about it but then I think its a pretty fair trade off.

No kidding :wow:

If you look at the specs closely though you get a lot of top notch parts for the money. A basic rifle upgrade with the same parts would cost you more at the end. It's all about either spending the cash up font, or spreading the cost little by little.
