One of my instructors at law enforcement school was XO of the Sundew here in MN.
2003-present. "Ensign upper half." :) Since this is glock talk, might as well mention I picked up a personal copy of our new service weapon, the Sig P229R DAK... very nice, the CG picked a classy weapon. Going to take some getting used to though.

We have a few folks that have trouble with the 92F, should be interesting with the P229, I for one, am looking forward to the course of fire :)
We are in the same situation with regard to people having enough of a challenge with the M9.
The Sig has a very long (but smooth) trigger pull that, coupled with the .40's pronounced muzzle flip, will require a LOT of ammo to go downrange before all our BTM's can qualify, maybe myself included despite having a head start. Should be interesting in any case.
Take care.
I shot the DAK in October back in SAI school. The highest basic score I ever got on the M9 was 144, DAK 150 first time out! I think that smooth trigger and the fact that there is no real take-up, makes for an easier shooting weapon. Unlike the M9, you're cocking the weapon as soon as pressure is applied to the trigger and it doesn't feel like it. No change in resistance throughout the squeeze. Between the 2 different DA's (PDA,IDA) I found myself releasing the trigger fully since it's the lighter of the two trigger pulls.
It was a first time shoot for all of us, as far as I remember, we only got 50 round fam-fire before doing basic. Most qual'd first time, I think maybe 1 person had to requal.
Just shot basic with and PPC with the 229 for the first time. OUt of 30 of us at the range, 3 of us left fully qualified. Nice smooth trigger, I think the non shooters are going to have a hard time due to it being a long pull.
I was using the shorter pull after the first shot, however, unless you are used to this like with the GLocks, it could be a challenge.
Cheers

Ahhhh. Thanks for the news. What year was that? I was on her in the early 60s and we maintained all the buoys and lights in the American section of the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario. The skipper was a mustang LT and the XO was a CHBOSN. I stood inport OD watches after making 3rd class; a delightfully small crew and, you're right; she was a great old boat!
Was she salvaged or put to some civilian use after she retired?
Again, Thanks for the update.
--Terry ;c ;c to you too!
There's a site called fredsplace.org thats a CG reunion hall.
Pick your old stations & check in to see who's around.

"They" are calling it right now on the East Coast "TACT". That means Tailored Annual Cutter Training. Out on the "left" coast it is TSTA. However, once the East coast changes the way we do training, it will become TSTA. ^2

1958-1962 Same years as you.Galveston,ET school,Sabine Pass,Tex,Ebeye Island in the Marshall Islands-loran station.Second class ET but usually filled a CPO billet because every body with electronics training got out because with the the electronics training civilian jobs were easy to get.Worked for the NSA as a civilian contractor for several years after. Our armory had WWII hand me downs.Old .45's,garand carbine,.45 grease gun and an old .30 machine gun that was never mounted on any thing. The only thing I ever saw larger than a 40' patrol boat or bouy tender was I believe a 83' patrol boat that made a two day stop in Galveston so I could repair the radar.Never saw an airplane or helo at all.The Coast Guard was under the Tresury Dept at that time. One thing I regret was we had access to the old Liberty supply ships in mothball at Orange Texas.I got a real nice set of electronics test equipment in oak cases.I never thought about it then but I should have went on one of the ships that had cases of 1911's and garands. No body ever checked what we took. Some of the guys went on leave with their cars rear bumper draging the ground with booty. At the time I could care less about owning an old 1911 or garand.I remember seeing people cutting up some old AA'a in the yard and they buried them in a hole to rust.

I'm strongly considering joining. I'm ex Army and now a Mud boat engineer in the oilfield. It sucks working under someone who knows less than you do. I'm going to talk to a recruiter this week and see if I can get G.M. or stay in the Engine Room. A Chief I worked with was ex CG and he got me amped to try the CG. I am currently dealing w/ the Houston REC for my license upgrade to Chief Limited Oceans / 3rd Unlimited Engineer. Anybody with a hook-up in Houston? It's been 2 months already.
