Worked as an AMS3 on the Lincoln (CVN-72) in the AIMD shop during Desert Storm (last couple of months, actually)

Just wondering who else here is a fellow brownshoe...

How was Fallon? When I went to A school in Millington, I finished 3rd in my class and got to choose my duty station. the only two shore duty assignments were an F-18 squadron at Fallon, or a top secret missle test facility in Kauai, Hawaii.
I really liked the desert, and I was from Idaho, so Fallon almost got the nod, but I went with Hawaii since I figured I'd never get a chance to live in Hawaii for free;f .

I should have gone to Fallon:( . Hawaii was great for 6 months, then it became an island prison. Plus, Hawaii was considered isolated sea duty and the tour was only 18 months, so I was locked into a sea duty billet and was transfered to AIMD Nas Whidbey Island where I was assigned to the Lincoln.

I've always wondered what it would have been like to be at Fallon.

LOL, I know what you mean about Hawaii being an island prison. I felt the same way about Guam; loved it for the first six months, then I couldn't stand the place. On the other hand, I really LOVED Fallon. With Reno only an hour, easy access to great camping (real camping in the middle of nowhere), Lake Lahontan just down the road, and of course the desert, there was plenty to keep you busy off duty. My buddies and I would take our rifles out into the desert and spend hours shooting jackrabbits and coyotes and just enjoying the outdoors. And being a controller only made it that much more fun for me. I've never had so much fun as I did working in the tower when an entire Air Wing would recover from the ranges. More F14's and F18's in the pattern than you could count! What a blast!

I was in Lemoore for a little bit in the spring of `90 attending the Advanced Aviation Composites Course learning to repair the graphite epoxy on the F-18s...

I think I was one of the Maintenance Control Chiefs about then. With 53 freaking planes there were a lot of us.
