View Full Version : HK USP40 Compact LEM
A Newbie here and a big hello to everyone.
I'm able to purchase the USP 40 compact LEM for $495 new. It comes with tritium night sights (installed), lockable storage case, cable lock, and 2 10 round magazines.
I've also been looking at the P2000 40 w/LEM. I don't know what that gun would cost me at a place like CDNN or Bachman Pawn? I was reading some other threads in GLOCKTALK and was coming away with the impression that the H&K USPc40, particularly the LEM, was not the top of the line gun I thought it was. some folks really dislike the trigger action. Names such as Springfield, S&W, Colt, and SIG( 229 w/DAK trigger) kept popping up.
My question is, at $495 for the HK USP40 Compact LEM, should this be a no brainer purchase? Or is the HK P2000( has standard mounting rails for accessories) or one of the other makes worth considering for the extra money? I want this for concealed carry, camping, kayaking, and the home. Thanks

I have the P2000 and love it. The trigger is not for everybody but mine feels fine. I would buy it and then sell it if I didnt like it. I think you will though. Or you can always have the trigger style changed at an HK armorer. I would check to see if it is possible with the LEM trigger first but I think it is.
Sounds like a great price. Buy it, if you don't like it you can sell it and probably make money. CDNN had the USPc 40 LEM for $599, with standard sights. So your price is probably $175 cheaper (factoring in nightsights).

Do you fly for someone? I'm getting rid of mine for a P2000sk.
Tecumseh and FatBob, thanks for the input. Patrick, yes and the deal is part of the FFDO program as you probably know. Did you get the same deal on yours? What are you asking for it? I've read threads
where people say the resale on the LEM 40's are not that good. People want the Variant1&2. My position is even if I get a good deal on the USPc 40/LEM what difference does it make if I can't resell it for what I've got in it or why mess with it if the P2000 or P2000sk is the better gun to own. Of course the LEM is standard on the 2000 models. Why are you switching to the sk? The size looks very similar to the USPc except for the grip. Any feedback you can provide is appreciated.

I don't care about the firing pin that's broken a couple times on mine. Also, for day to day it's ok for size but I'd like something more the size of the G27. If I were you, I'd get it. I'm sure I could sell mine for at least $640. Seen used ones for more at the shows and people were buying.

72 Guy,
I got mine through the same program a month ago. It is a good deal and i'm very happy with the weapon so far. They retail for 795 and if you look on gunbroker, you'll see a new USPC's go for more than the 495 deal you get from HK. If you've never fired the LEM trigger before, it takes some getting used to, but once you do, I think you'll like it. I know I did. Anyway, hope this helps.

I've had one for about 4 years now. It's my constant off duty carry. With appropriate leather, I think it's tops (unless you REALLY need to be discrete). Then I reach for my Kahr K40.;f

For that price, I'd jump on it in an instant. I've heard adapting to the LEM trigger isn't difficult, and the worst case scenario would be that you sell it for what you paid or a small profit.
I personally love the USP series and see no need to move to the P2000 unless you need something smaller than a USP Compact (the P2000sk). The excellent price in your case would just be icing on the cake for me.

Mr 72,
The Airline Pilot deal cannot be beat anywhere. Grab it; even if you don't like it, you can always sell it.
The LEM takes some getting used to, but it is not a bad trigger. I have my duty weapon copy gun and also an HK Compact .45 with the LEM, and I had a trigger job done on the .45 to lighten the trigger pull weight. It comes out at a consistent 6.5 pounds but because it's so smooth it feels more like 5 pounds. Trigger travel and trigger reset are both longer than a Glock but are shorter than the Sig DAK trigger.
The weapon is very high quality.
I am a 1911 type of guy, and Commander sized 1911s are my primary carry weapon (off duty, that is). However, when I'm not carrying my 1911s I carry my HK Compact .45.
In the DFW area, Bachman is a good company to purchase guns from.
You with Eagle? I did almost 19 years with them, 2000+ hours on the -72. Quirky, ice critical, but boy howdy it could move the meat. Tons of pax, tons of bags and tons of gas.

BTW, CDNN is TERRIFIC to work with. Cheapest prices on HK mags anywhere and great customer service.

I think that is a good price, as far as the weapon is concerned, I think it is an excellent choice. I have about 4 Glocks and they are all awesome and do not have one bad thing to say about them. However, I have had a USP 40 LEM for about 4 years now and carry it daily in a concealed capacity. I have shot thousands of rounds through it and have never had a single malfunction. My favorite part about it is how it fits my hand and the trigger. Love that reset for rapid firing. You barely let your finger off the trigger and pull back again for the next shot. GO FOR IT!
Thanks to all for your valued feedback. It's obvious, after reading all the threads here and on HKPRO.com, that I "NEED" the USPc and the P2000sk. Thanks alot.;) Now all I need to do is factor in the costs of magazines, couches, holsters, wallpaper, amo, rugs--------well, you know the drill.;1 ;3 ;f
Thanks again for all the help.
Dave
PS- Was at the gun show yesterday and this dealer sells HK at 10% over. I don't have any ties to him and I don't know if this is a ;L on the forum. I don't know if this is a good deal or not but it's Sherwoods Guns 270-784-8777 SherwoodsGuns@insightbb.com.
