View Full Version : About to purchase a Kimber
I have been doing my research on which 1911 to purchase. Ive had my heart set on the Kimber stainless 2 for some time but several threads on this site have freaked me out a little. Should I be listening to this or is a lot of it just hype? I understand there are bad apples in every batch of anything but are Kimbers prone to problems? I will be sure to get the internal extractor. Are there a lot of problems with the firing pin block safety? Ive noticed that has also been controversal. Sorry if this subject has been beat to death but i just dont want to regret my purchase.
I haven't heard anyone complain about the Series II safety in a long time. It is easily disabled anyhow. Buy the pistol if you like it.
I have put about 500 rounds of ball through my Kimber Custom II. Zero malfunctions of any kind. Zero.

I have a Kimber Custom II and it shoots OK. The thumb safety went into orbit one day though. It was cheaper to order a high dollar replacement thumb safety from Brownells than to ship the pistol back to Kimber for repair.

I would make just it has an internal extractor that's all. Kimber is going back to internal extractors and I don't think it makes much sense to gamble.

Kimber makes a high quality, consistent pistol for the money. My 4 Kimbers haven't had any problems with their series II safeties. Look forward to reading how she shoots for you. ;?
Thanks fellas, hopefully within a month i will have a range report and be able to snap some pics too.I hope she shoots as good as she looks!

While I do not love the external extractor...
I have a TLE/RL II... it has been 100% reliable and shoots just fine.

I have put about 5000 rounds thru mine, and it's still going great, and will be for many thousands more.
I will speak for myself ,KIMBERS are worth the money ,as far as Quality, accuracy and Customer service. Here the pics of my Kimbers. My TLE with S&A magwell, team Kimber grips,EFK compensator, and 2.5 lbs trigger, the most accurate and my favorite.
KIMBER Desert Warrior with S&A magwell.
NICE!!! You guys are telling me everything I want to hear! My town is the only thing holding me back. They got me waiting on my permit and all. Ive shot S&W 1911s and colts, both are nice but I like the way the kimbers look.
Trusting my life to this gun comes first. Looks come second. I plan on buying a glock to, that alone tells you that looks come second.~1 ~1 ~1

Any gun can fail, trust comes with time.
That said I fully recognize the Glocks seem to fail a lot less than the Kimbers.
Thats why i Keep a Glock #19 close to me at night for my HOME protection.
Yep, the 19 is my choice too. I like that setup you got there, I will definetly be getting the extended mag and some sort of light. The kimber will probably only come out on special occasions. The Glock I will carry daily.
Good choice my friend.KIMBER-TLE, DESERT WARRIOR, GRAND RAPTOR,CASPIAN 45 acp (still on building stage), GLOCK #19, G34(just ordered ) and Berreta ENOS 22lr
I bought a brand new Custom Stainless II last summer. I took it out to shoot and loaded up the magazine. The first 4 rounds went “bang,” the fifth round went “click.” I tried again and “click.” Tried a different magazine with different ammo, “click.” The primers were being hit, but not hard enough to set them off.
To say I was mad would be an understatement. A $700+ handgun should go “bang” every time.
I do have to say Kimber’s customer service was amazing. I got home late in the afternoon and thought they had probably closed up shop for the day, so I shot them an email. Not 5 minutes after I sent the email my phone rang; it was Kimber wanting more info it. They fixed the problem at no cost and even paid for shipping both ways. I had it back in a week. According to the work order, they had replaced the push rod and the grip safety. It’s worked fine ever since.
I never intended to carry it or use it for SD so I guess it doesn’t really matter, but still, I don’t completely trust it.
