View Full Version : Mainspring Housing
I want to replace my mainspring housing with an Ed Brown Snakeskin model Link (http://www.edbrown.com/cgi-bin/htmlos.cgi/001402.1.545464371864080663)
This is a Kimber Custom II. It looks like there is a pin holding it in. Is this something that you think I can do myself?

Do you mean the mainspring housing pin that goes through the frame?
I want to take a puch of some sort, tap that pin out, remove and replace the Mainspring housing and put the pin back in.
Can you tell I'm not a gun smith;)
You got it, just make sure hammer strut is lined up with the mainspring cap and not cocked.

One good sharp wack will knock the MSH pin out. When you get it out you're going to need to remove the spring, cap, and detent from the old MSH and install in the new one.
There is a pin near the top that you will push out from the outside (checkered side) of the MSH. You need to push down the mainspring using a punch to get the tension off the pin and it will push out with very little effort.
To reinstall the MSH make sure the hammer is down and the hammer strut is matching up with the mainspring cap. Push the MSH in the rest of the way by pushing it against a solid surface. Put the pin in and give it a wack and you're done.
Make sure your grip safety still works, if it doesn't and you want it to then get back with us, it probably will though.

If the Slide is removed and the hammer is left in the uncocked position resting on the Frame, you will not encounter any Strut pressure and thus the MSH will not fly out of the Frame. This also makes the installment much easier.
Good Luck.
I was getting a bit scared but I'm better now.
THanks
